    Roller Lifter Identification

I don’t think so. The Engle lifters had an aluminum pushrod seat and they did not have captive links like that. PRH called it early. That’s a Comp lifter. Look at the link bars. Comp for sure.

    Valve adjustment.......

Blow me. What difference does it make if it’s a /6 or a Pro Stocker?? Doing stupid **** is still stupid ****. I’m not bragging but evidently I intimidate people like you who prefer garbage parts and bad tuning procedures.

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

Yeah, that’s not good. It’s hard to see in the picture but that almost looks like a sintered bronze or oilite bushing material. Not saying it is because it may be the picture but usually brass doesn’t make chips like that. At least not the brass they use for those gears. If this is a...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

I’d explain to you why you use seat to seat timing but you can’t learn. And of course if your god Vizard doesn’t say it you don’t know it. I wouldn’t buy another DV book with a gun to my head. Have you ever even seen The Horsepower Chain? That one book exposes a lot of garbage put out by...

Intake (heat shield) and metal gaskets?

I’d be real careful blocking the heat off for any reason. I say that because todays fuel does not vaporize worth a crap and without the heat from the crossover you’ll need to make a bunch of tuning and carb changes. I’d try to get the rivets out first and if they don’t come out then look at...

Yeah, I’d want to see the parts list and all the numbers ofc the dyno for that.

Cost for labor on stroker build?

I know most shops around here are at least 110 bucks an hour. Some of them are at 130/hr and it’s going up almost by the week. The cost of chemicals is going berserk and that’s part of what’s driving the hourly rate. And it won’t be going down any time soon unless the entire floor of the...

Intake (heat shield) and metal gaskets?

Not sure about that so I don’t know. That area where the exhaust crosses over gets extremely hot. I mean real hot. Any oil that hits it when it’s hot Coke’s off. If you are even half careful you should be able to get them out. 99% of the time it’s pretty easy. I have had a couple of times...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Ok, if you go back to speedtalk and on the page that lists all the forums you click on the announcements tab. Right at the top of that page is a button that says “limited supply of Don Terrell’s horsepower chain”. click on that and the instructions to get one is there. They are only 40 bucks...

I’ll check on it for you. I can’t remember exactly what you have to do to get one.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

If you have an engine you want a cam spec’d for let me know bore, stroke, rod length, compression ratio and at what RPM you want to make peak torque and I’ll run some numbers. I can’t tell you exactly what the numbers might be because it sometimes throws out some crazy numbers.

Intake (heat shield) and metal gaskets?

Get that thing off of there and clean the hell out of it. Get under the rivet with a small chisel but it can’t have a sharp end. If it does you’ll knock the head off of it. Gently tap in the chisel with a small hammer. Not some 32 ounce framing hammer but an 8 ounce ball peen hammer works...

    Oiling issues

There is a reason Systems 1 put a sleeve inside their filter. To stop **** like that. It’s hard to see in the picture but is there a screen or something inside to keep it from collapsing? If it’s a race car and you have a 40 micron screen it will filter everything you need. I know this. A...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Save your money for that book. Go to speedtalk.com and see if you can still get a copy of The Horsepower Chain. Not only will it change the way you think about internal combustion engines and how they really work. It also has actual math. Not empirically derived crap.

    Valve adjustment.......

Not puffing anything up. If you like boring stock **** then good on you. No one and I mean no one I haves asked who is an actual engine builder ever said that’s the correct way to lash valves. But keep posting outdated garbage. That’s the new normal.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

The piston absolutely positively has to come out of the deck. I will check it when I start putting my junk back together but IIRC they are .054 out of the block and IIRC that's about .040 deck clearance. As a general rule I don't go any closer than .040 because after that, any gains and...

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

You can look at it if it makes you feel better but as a very general rule, the pieces that come off a brass gear are fairly big and not small pieces. I'd start by cutting open the filter and see how much junk is in it. That should at least give you a general idea how much of that brass is...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Yup. The Chrysler open chamber has to eat a lot of **** from guys who don't have a clue just how good that chamber is. I expect my engine to be in the 28-30 range and maybe, maybe 18 initial. It may take less initial

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

You really need the seat to seat timing numbers and at what checking height was used to get it. The engine sees seat to seat timing. Not at .050 timing.

The industry calls that pin fitting. That’s what it should be called.

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

Hughes is dead wrong about HV/HP pumps wearing the gear. That’s what happens on bow tie and blue oval garbage. Run a melonized gear. Replace the filter twice and send it.

Timing sprocket gear loose against cam key.

I’m not a very smart guy but if the new gear is ******* junk, take it back and buy something better. Why would you run an old gear on a new chain?? Most of these chains and gears are garbage anyway but running a used gear is like making yourself a **** sandwich so you don’t go hungry. Get a...

    Valve adjustment.......

Let me know when you see a decent engine get its valves lashed with the engine running. It won’t ever happen and bet your *** if that way was the best they’d be doing it. It’s not 1953 any more.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Think it through. Compression makes power and it makes power everywhere. Compression makes the chamber packed tighter. A tighter packed chamber requires less timing. So why not up the compression and unfuck the tune up so you can do it? On pump gas, a 9:1 engine may want 35 total. That same...

    Turning torque for engine

In reality the temperature should never vary much above thermostat opening. If it’s getting hot going down the freeway then the pump is turning too slow. It won’t matter if you have a 200 mph wind it won’t cool if the pump is turning too slow. Same in slow traffic and at stop lights. If it...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

Doesn’t matter because it’s not measuring pumping losses. If it makes more power it makes more power. I had a Pontiac on the dyno a week or so ago. He had an 850 and I have an 830 (1.410 X 1.750). My carb was up 11 HP or close to that across the board. It showed it was flowing the exact...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

Yeah, that’s what I’m running on 340 inches. Two true 830’s. Since you can’t tune of course you can’t do it. Also your love affair with door stop carbs causes you to make less power but evidently that doesn’t bother you. Keep running small carbs and going slow. Keep that reputation going...
