Steel with a Magnum gasket on one side and an LA gasket on the other. They aren’t gaskets themselves.

Interesting that the 5.7 and 6.4 G3 just about hits that ratio perfectly. Add that is has a 9.25 deck height, I think.

Hey what radiator are you running? I started a thread and tagged you in it at the end asking for help on radiator hoses for a Cold Case radiator. Guessing you didn't see it. BTW, tried to PM you as well, but your inbox is full.

Based on those pictures, I would say they do not have enough meat to seal a 340 exhaust manifold. I tried to find a picture of an early Magnum head that had enough meat and came up blank. I know my buddy had a set when I was doing my swap, but guessing they are an early set only because...

@dartslantsix and @75slant6 are/were running an Ax15. Dartslantsix had his for sale several months ago. Either way, they should both have some idea of how they work in a car. Also, the AX15 and R154 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. As does the AR5/MA5. So you could start with an AX15...

The problem is the bottom of the port. That line at the top of the gasket port is the bottom of the cylinder head. There isn't any material there to squish the gasket and create a seal. Some Magnum heads drop down further, mine and the OP's did not.

SendCutSend can cut stuff for you. I have a pattern I gave someone here recently for this exact reason. Can't promise it is a perfect fix, I have the same problem (Magnum R/T heads with 340 manifolds) and my adapter plates seem to be ok. But I have leaks I haven't identified so it could be...

I don't think there is a part that will swap, but the V10 is definitely SB based.

Sure, but now the point about one having higher compression is mute since both would get whatever compression the builder decided.

Not all 383's had high compression, the 383 2bbl had pretty much the same compression ratio as the 360. Agreed that the 383 had a high compression option that the 360 never did, but I would bet most 383's someone drags home to drop in their A-Body are going to be of the 2bbl persuasion. And...

I got it. The '71 340 was the last year for the 2.02 heads, right? I bet when the 340 and 360 moved to a 1.88 head they picked up power. Has to be the difference. :rofl:
