Disconnecting it before the run is a great idea! I think the best words are "elegant solution". I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to disconnect the alternator using the kill switch.
Just a "buyer beware" to OP. The last time I checkled with Wilwood, which was about 10 years ago, the Wilwood hubs might not fit your knuckles if you currently have OE disc brakes. I don't know if it is true for '73s and newer, but for 67-72s, Wilwood only made hubs to fit the OE drum brake...
Just a relared FYI. I don't remember where, but I read where someone did an analysis of a-body roll center for road racing, and concluded the correct spindle height was about a 1" drop, rather than the original spindles or the after market 2" drop spindles.
Whoa! I apologize for missing that.
Because the front of the springs are so short and stiff, the problem is likely somewhere between the hanger and the mounting pin, assuming no changes to anything else.
All true and good advice. I ended up with the same problem after replacing an entire quarter panel, but only had about a 3/8 difference. Try taking a close look at your 1/16 side to see if it's been replaced or patched. If I ever do that again, I'll fit the new quarter with the new wheel/tire...
I'm not doubting your experiences, but just want to give a balancing point of view regarding AMD. My experience with AMD sheet metal has been consistently good. I've replaced 2 AMD a-body quarters, and both fit perfectly. Same good experience with AMD a-body and e-body header panels, rockers...
Makes sense. I had less than 5,000 miles on a new drivver side Moog LBJ and it went bad. Also had a new inner tie rod end go bad on the passenger side.
I have had great experience with IMM on 3 builds. Brian is super knowledeable and ethical. Plus, I've spent a lot of time with him and have never heard him say a bad word about other shops or people, even when I brought up some problems I have had with others. I highly recommend him.
From the content and time of your reply, it is certain you were referring to my previous post. It is possible there is something out of whack in my housing that made gears more prone to whining, even with proper adjustment. The rear end shop tried readjusting the gears (which were originally...
I only know what I have been told by more than one rear end expert, and that is that NA manufactured gears are hit and miss, and that I should try to find an old spicer set in good shape or get a new set from Strange. One of those experts had a used OE spicer set on hand, and it cured my rear...
Could not agree more. Even a reman stock alternator will increase the alternator output from the stock 35 amps to 55 amps or more, which will increase the battery charging current and thus increase the heat in the bulkhead contacts, even without any additional loads. Heat is proportional to the...
