High pressure return line power steering, 1960 Valiant. Advice please.

Because of this Forum, I located a new pressure return hose from O'Reilley's Auto-parts for a sawbuck. It is installed and fits perfectly. The leak near the brake master cylinder has been repaired. THANK YOU! I could not do it without y'all.

Roasted Dash Wiring Harness: 1960 Valiant 200

Thank you, everyone, for your excellent knowledge and experience. First, I'm going to print out that wiring schematic. Second, I'm going to buy a service manual. As to the root cause of what caused the wires to overheat and melt the insulation, Jerry, the mechanic, believes it to be a thin...

Roasted Dash Wiring Harness: 1960 Valiant 200

OK, thanks! Tried a web search, and didn't find a thing specific to the model. It is believed that at some point, someone wired in a feeder wire of a very small gauge, causing them to overheat. At least that's what I'm told. I'm lucky it didn't catch fire. I am determined to drag this car over...

Roasted Dash Wiring Harness: 1960 Valiant 200

The wires for the dash got roasted at some point, and the need repair or replacement. Where can I find this item or should I go with a universal kit? I am having trouble downloading pictures from phone.

    Starter motor question

Thank you all again for your exceptional knowledge and experience. I went through the conversion chart for Speedway Motors and spent $400 on a starter. The bolt holes lined up perfectly, but the Bendix would not reach the flywheel. Rick at Show-n-Go Automotive here in El Paso went through his...

    Starter motor question

The old one, probably 1960, has bad brushes. Ordered a new starter that indicated it would fit a '60, but when trying to install it, the bolt holes match up, but the pinion gear does not reach the flywheel. Any ideas?

High pressure return line power steering, 1960 Valiant. Advice please.

Thank you all for your most excellent replies. They were going to send the hose out to be remanufactured, but I checked it into the cart just in case. As I told my mechanic, the components of the human body (I am a nurse by trade) are compartively simple and have not changed in 2 million years...

High pressure return line power steering, 1960 Valiant. Advice please.

Thank you very much for the input. The middle picture, with that sleeve that looks grafted on with hose clamps, appears to be a major problem. It leads to a fitting that somehow screws into the brake master cylinder- which confuses me to no end. That fitting has a small leak; the thought is to...

High pressure return line power steering, 1960 Valiant. Advice please.

Many thanks; I wasn't sure of the diameter. The fittings have a leak where it comes off the master cylinder (why is it connected there??? Manual drum brakes). The mechanic thinks a few turns of Teflon tape might seal the fittings.

High pressure return line power steering, 1960 Valiant. Advice please.

Not sure if I posted this inquiry correctly, sorry if it is a double post. The pump is intact, but there is a steady drip from the high pressure return line. Does anyone have any experience with this and how to fix? There are a number of universal kits online, but not sure if any would fit.

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

We looked into that, but for the reasons of trial and error, it seemed like a no-go. One guy did looked at it, but thought the metal was to corroded and thinned out. Thanks for the idea, though.

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

The upshot is that I went with the fuel cell, which does the job well. It didn't seem worthwhile to make trial and error attempts at brazing the worn inlet ports, have them leak, have to pull the tank, drain it, dry it, and start all over again.

    Windshield Wiper Motor

The wipers on the '60 Valiant quit. Previously, they worked, albeit aniemically. Does anyone have a guess as to whether the motors are interchangeable to any degree? Or would my best bet to pull it out and get it rewound? Anybody know a place where I can get a small electric motor fixed?

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

That never occurred to me or anyone else. Great idea. However, I've already committed to a fuel cell installation. I'm not happy about having a trunk full of gasoline, but this appears to be the most pragmatic way to move forward, having not heard of your solution. The main two issues remain...

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

And there was. The '64 tank is 17 inches wider than the '60 tank. The '60 tank, now out, seems to be impossibly tiny for a car of this size, but there it is. The wrap-around feature is apparently a compensation for the its small size and the enormous spare tire well, that appears much in excess...

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

Well, well, well Professor Fate. After pulling the tank, and it did look pretty thrashed from 64 years of road spray, I went about doing everything but investigating the leak, which I presumed was major. Since there are no good condition 1960 Valiant gas tanks lying around, anywhere, I looked...

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

Until we pull the tank, can't say where its coming from. The sending unit was new, and it didn't leak the first couple of fill ups. I decided the roll the dice and purchase a new old stock tank for a 64 - 67 Valiant 200. If it doesn't work, I can return it. Alternatively, there is a...

I'm seeing maybe a fuel pump and a coil. She finally tooled out of the shop, only to quit the next day. I'd been concerned about a bad ground but was told by two sources that nah, all was good. Then she died five miles later on a new battery. A new shop quickly found a bad ground made of old...

    Fuel Tank Question: '60 Val

12K later, Mabelline is up and running. It is just shy of an as-new restoration. Everything busted has been replaced with New Old Stock or a good facsimile. The fuel tank was rusted from the inside out, so not finding any, we opted to coat the inside. First few tank fulls, everything was fine...

    1960 Valiant Restore: advice welcomed.

Well, it's been moved from one side of the paint shop to the other. Masking tape on some of the door handles. Seats removed, but nothing done to the headliner or interior panels. I took the Ranchero to another body place and had them knock out a fender dent and repaint in under three days. At...

No, it's a Val. And I threw a one two punch at them today.
