Check self adjuster "star" wheel. They are left and right handed thread. If you have them mixed up, they will loosen the adjustment rather than tighten.

Steering gear cross shafts are adjustable.

Very good, there you go. That thing hanging down between vent and wiper motor might be a piece of your e-brake. It has the return spring attached to it.

Your pictures are not correct. Cable lengths appear to be some universal application. The #1 cable (the longest one) attaches to the second hole from the top (your picture is upside down, the top hole is a pivot). The cable attaches to lever with a clevis, not shown in your picture.

How do you bend a lifter?
