Try aluminum. Doesn’t seem to make a big difference when I dip the balled tungsten. It seems to be self cleaning. Otherwise, I’m a very good tungsten sharpener.

How high should I make my ceiling in my new shop,,,10 feet or 12 feet

More higher, more better And ya’ll can quit showing off your garage palaces, if you don’t mind. Some of us suffer from severe garage envy. It can be a debilitating condition.

    273 rocker losing adjustment

This is probably the most rigid/stable setup I've seen and should give a nice flat surface so the nut will be flush when torqued. You would be surprised how much that endmill will want to push the work piece around if it isn't anchored securely. The larger the mill, the more important the...

    273 rocker losing adjustment

Plunge cutting with an end mill in drill press might work, but if there is any clearance in the spindle bearings bad things might happen. That endmill is gonna have to be probably 5/8 or three-quarter inch diameter and it’s gonna wanna grab and wobble unless the drill press spindle bearings are...

    Burning up pushrods!

I would be inclined to cut a small chamfer on the inside wall of the cup mouth. Lathe or careful use of a round stone larger than the pocket should work. The chamfer would carry some oil. Just seems like the way the cup fits the ball so tight, all the oil is getting wiped out as the parts pivot...

    273 rocker losing adjustment

There’s a very good chance that the Mancini rockers would hit the Edelbrock springs as well. Most aftermarket rockers need to be moved up and away from the valve to clear the spring retainer, unless beehive springs are used.

Is that a one off custom or was that commercially available? Couldn’t find any reference in google.

    Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

I'd be surprised if it needs a reblue on the the slide, but some of these upper class builders refuse to cut any corner, regardless the cost. I guess if the deburring process gets off the corner and into the flat, it might affect the appearance. I want to put an optic on my Ronin 45 but I...

    Roller Retrofit Lifter Bore Question

$1000 is probably about right for the bushings and labor. Thats about what I paid. There is a significant benefit to the oil pressure by controlling all those big leaks at the lifter bores. If you want to run hydraulic lifters or pushrod oiling, a small orifice can be added to the bushings.

    400hp Pump Gas Roller 340 Strip/Street Build

If you find my thread, he got close to that before he started on them. And really didn't take much time to get another 20-25cfm. They are nice.

    400hp Pump Gas Roller 340 Strip/Street Build

Member NC Engine Builder did the work. I did a long thread on the build a couple months ago but don't have it handy. He didn't spend very much time on them but got them close to 280cfm. These are the standard 171cc port version, similar to Edelbrock and SM. With the 1.6 rockers I planned on...

    400hp Pump Gas Roller 340 Strip/Street Build

I just did a 340 with mildly ported ProMaxx aluminum heads, 10.8:1 compression, and a 242/247 Solid flat tappet cam. With no tuning and the wrong rockers we got 460hp on the dyno. You don't need a roller cam to get 400hp. If you already have it, fine. But you can get into 500hp with a less...

    273 rocker losing adjustment

The thread fit of the adjuster to the rocker body has a mechanical interference. This is a design feature so the adjuster doesn't back out. Over time the interference fit can wear, either on the male or female part, and it needs to be corrected. The simplest way to do it is to upset the female...

Aluminum Tunnel Ram Intake MOPAR SB Weiand "NEEDS REPAIRING" 318 340 360

If I could get it for less than $50 I would take it on as a project. Cut the ugly off and throw it in the blast cabinet. Then fab some plates to replace what you cut off and hit it with the spool gun. Throw the parts on the mill to flatten the surfaces and hit the new components with the...

    This flew in Yesterday

Used to live in St. Charles in the 80's and go to the big airshow on the river before it became the VP. Most memorable flyby was a B1 with wings swept forward coming low and slow down the river, barely above the Eads Bridge and definitely below the top of the arch. When it got to the viewing...

Drill bits for drilling out spot welds

The HF style cutters work decent once you get the speed and pressure right. You pretty much need to have at least a good center punch dimple or a 1/16" hole or center drill spot for the centering spindle to guide it or they will walk like crazy and break teeth. I make a new center spindle that...

    Trick Flow heads, etc.

Everyone has different priorities and opportunities. I know a couple people who the last thing they need to be doing is spending money drag racing. But, it's what they like to do, makes them happy, and that is the road they choose to travel and make other sacrifices to be able to do it. To...

    Ferd 4.6 2V blown sparkplug

Kinda my feeling too. A good coating of the Loctite on the threads first and then the bushing should guarantee a gas-tight seal. As usual, I'm overthinking the problem, but I hate taking shortcuts and having to redo something.

    Ferd 4.6 2V blown sparkplug

I think I'm going to have to pull the driver side fuel rail to get unrestricted access for the tooling. It's third hole back on driver side, so #7 in Ford's f'ed up world. Besides that, shouldn't take much more than half an hour, being meticulous to get all the chips out. I ran a M14x1.25...

    Ferd 4.6 2V blown sparkplug

Thanks for the feedback. I feel better about doing the insert now. I have been doing a similar repair on BMW aluminum oil pans for fifteen years with a bushing that I turn in the lathe myself, but all the work is done with the pan out of the car and very precise alignment in the milling...

    Ferd 4.6 2V blown sparkplug

My son's 2001 Mustang GT Bullit just spit out the sparkplug from the #7 cylinder. Only 73,000 miles on the car. Apparently this is a common problem with the 4.6 and 5.4 two valve motors. Ford's recommendation is to replace the head but there are kits out there to install a bushing to restore...

    360 hydraulic lifter failure

Probably overkill but less likely to strip threads in the softer material so do what makes you feel better. That nub should be sticking out just enough to do it's job. I'm surprised that this much difference in fan RPM will make that much of a difference. 5%-10% doesn't seem like much...

    LA Harmonic Balancer bolt?

If that bolt got tighter by turning the engine over by the bolt, either the engine was locked up, or the bolt was never tight in the first place. I think you can just leave it alone, but if it makes you feel better, loosen then retorque. Probably have to block the flywheel or starter gear to...
