Perfect light but no bye into next round!

NHRA quit caring about the Sportsman Racers decades ago. For that reason my former partner (RIP) and I went over to IHRA. We got to know the officials over the years and they genuinely cared about the Sportsman classes. At the larger events, they made sure to ride the pit area letting us know...

Post your best racing related memory!

My best memory is my then race partner, winning the only national event in his life. It was at the now defunct "concrete palace" outside of Kaufman, TX in 2009. It was called the "Inaugural Amalie Oil Texas Nationals Dallas Texas". We battled through the stock eliminator field, but it took 2...

Bracket hot laps and e.t increase

As stated, consistency wins more bracket races than anything else. If you know you are going to have round robin runs later in the day, make sure that early in the day that your temps are up +/- 10* or less of what they will be later in the day.

    Project: Mentally Dusterbed

    Hard block recommendations

When using whatever fill you wish, make sure you have a small semi-flexible rod to massage the air bubbles out as you fill it. Also, my suggestion is to wait at least a minimum of 4 days before turning the block t do the other side. When I did mine, I used torque plates, I had one and borrowed...

B.R.E., can you post pictures of the metal removal from the mid section of the car forward? I'm thinking about doing the hole saw thing to try to get my car closer to 2300-2400 lb range. I know I'm going to loose some when I swap the iron heads to aluminum, but I want to get more weight off the...

My car is 2500 lbs with driver, race suit, helmet and 5 gallons of fuel. It has a 50/50 weight bias and 625 lbs per corner. I have no idea how we accomplished this, other than "pure luck".

    DaVinci 750 DP Questions

Dan is a great guy to deal with and is extremely reasonable on his pricing. It takes some time for him to get back to you as he runs the shop and oversees almost everything. If he doesn't get back to you shortly, give him another call.

    NSS Inline 2x4 Intake

I don't remember for sure, but back in the early to mid 70's the BBM guys ran an Edelbrock big plenum intake. It was nick named the "rat roaster" and had a single as well a a two four top. I haven't seen one in decades so the are probably out of production. If that's the case, if one is found it...

    Memphis Motorsports Park returning?

It will be interesting to see what the new management team at IHRA will do in the future. It seems that right after Mike Dunn took over that tracks started dropping like flies, especially in the southern region of the states.

Do used cams have value like lifters?

The Crower Monarch cam was a great cam. I ran one in a relatively stock LA 360 in a 79 Dodge Magnum years ago. Once the warranty was up on the "CS" lean burn system, the lean burn and everything associated with it went to the scrap bin.

Adding a window/inspection hole in Quicktime or similar scattershield.

My suggestion would be to get in touch with the safety person, with the sanctioning body where you may be racing. See what race close to you that he or she will be attending and go meet them. In my experience, the IHRA safety people are top drawer and answer your questions not to mention they...

    Possible Fuel Contamination

I had a friend running alcohol, he also stored it in his enclosed trailer. We pumped some if it out into some clear containers and there was water in it. We finally figured out that the barrel condensated because of temperature fluctuations so consequently there was water in his fuel.

Looking for info on 340 Torker performance mods

My Demon is race only, so with the Harwood Pro Stock hood scoop I have plenty of room. Maybe think about an aftermarket glass hood with a six pack scoop or a 60's wedge or Hemi style scoop. Just a few thoughts if you are going to use a taller intake and/or a spacer.

Looking for info on 340 Torker performance mods

Depending upon your setup, you may find it likes the deeper plenum. My 408 got quicker when I added a spacer, I started out with a 1" and finally ended up with a 2".

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

The Dana 60 will serve you well, after scattering a few 8 3/4 rears I went to the Dana. My car is race only, leaving at about 4000-4200 off the transbrake. I put 35 spline gun drilled axles in mine with a spool and have never looked back.

    Hood scoop to big?

You say it was checked at speed, which is fine and probably it was only a few trips. Just think about how things are going to fatigue when it's driven for long periods of time at highway speeds. My 80's Pro Stock hood scoop was bonded and riveted to my glass hood. After about a year of sporadic...
