Hey Guys,

Just picked up this 66 Cuda Formula S.

We have a few small things to get the car road ready again as it has not been driven much since the early 90's. The only thing so far I have not found is headers.

Anyone know who made these and where I can find a set of headers like this? These are originals from the 60's and the tubes are now squishy when squeezed by hand!!

I have a set that I had made in the 80's.

I had an old set that looked just like those and had new ones made off that pattern, a copy but nicer. I had the collector tuck up a little higher at the bottom of the fender. You have to notch or remove the splash shield to install. They are like new and have been jet hot coated and never ran. I'm looking for $600 if your interested I can shoot some pictures out tonight.

400 locally in So.Cal. Great shape. hit me up for his info.

Here's an old pic of my car with its Cyclone fenderwell headers. They look about the same. With these headers you had to cut the bottom of the splash shields behind the wheels & the collectors fit through there.

hookers don't look like they will, the heamans maybe.

I would have to agree.

Mopar Boy, do you have a picture of what one of your headers looks like at the collector end?

I will take one tonight!

Sure! I would not mind some pics! If it is not against the rules, feel free to post them here so if i do not end up with them, maybe someone else who is looking for a pair can swipe them! :)

Yes. they look scary similar!

Here is some pictures of mine. They have a few minor scrathes from storage that would probably polish out. They also need an over all polishing for some more shine. I guess mothers aluminum polish is suppose to work great.

Built by Smiley Custom Headers http://smileysheaders.com/ a long time ago.

edit:
1.75" measured on outside of primary tube.
3" collector

I too, am guessing Cyclone 1-5/8". I helped put a set of those on my buddies 66 Barracuda in 1974. As I recall they were awful expensive....right at a hundred bucks!!

I paid $60 for mine. Still have them too! Trying to decide whether to use them or patch the holes & get a set of Doug's.

Mopar Boy. Looking at that pic of the collector area that could easily be the same thing I have. I thought mine exited just a bit further back but I'm probably wrong. Back when I put them on I was lucky enough to find some 2 1/2" 45 degree bends with a 3" collector reducer on one end. They were perfect for dipping under that little bit of frame extension (or whatever it is) & turning the exhaust toward the center of the car. Added another set of 45 degree pipes & it headed to the back of the car.

Black Jack headers $ 39.95 looked like a can of worms on a small block.
My how things have changed..............

yeah, u might have to modify the hole a little, not sure.....but these wrap under car after they go out the fender well, collectors end up right next to the frame rail.....there 1 5/8" tube, 2 1/2" collector i believe...they come in a few pieces, and two tubes go inside the frame rail, two go out the fender...........work of art dude....heh..

coated mine myself w/vht high temp 1500 temp header paint, it's held up real well.......

Thanks for all the replys guys. I have been back and forth with the original owner for the last few days with all of the info you all provided and he thinks they might have been cyclones now that I mentioned it and he looked at the pictures here

That leaves me with a question. Dougs and Cyclones. One better then the other if I need to replace them? Are Cyclones even still available?

Thanks!

Robert

The Doug's are worlds better than the Cyclones. The TTi's are available. Quality-wise I would imagine the TTI's are as good as the Doug's. with the TTI's you have to get a special starter though, & I'm not sure if they can be made to work when you swap in a bigger clutch like a lot of us do when we modify our engines for more power.

Unless you find a set lying forgotten on a shelf somewhere, I don't think you'll get new Cyclones anywhere.

I am looking for a set of those headers for my car. They were installed in the early 80 s and have rotted away HELP HELP , my headers though looked different at the collector. I had to modify a collector shorter with a 45 degree bend so the exhaust wasn t on the ground. Oh yeah I have a 64 dart 340 4 barrell with a 4 speed 391 gear Lots of fun!!!!

If the flanges and collecters are still good you should be able to get the pipes duplicated by a competent custom Chassis shop. Gonna be expensive!
