Had some fun today. Autoxcuda and I did an alignment on my Barracuda and after getting are butts kicked on that we decided to put the Cuda on a set of scales. The results were interesting and truth be told I’m still trying to figure it out. Here is the breakdown on both cars:
Hemi Dart:
472ci engine, aluminum heads, iron block
727 Auto trans
8 3/4 rear end

Hemi Barracuda:
528ci engine, aluminum heads, iron block
833 manual trans
Dana 60 rear end.

Everything else is the same. Same battery, wheel and tires, factory bumpers, fiberglass parts and even paint prep. Both these cars have factory glass, not the super thin stuff. Factory thick doors, not the light weight ones. Factory thick bumpers and brackets not the light weight ones. The point I’m trying to make is these cars are very equal in builds other than the fact that one is a Dart/auto/8 3/4” and the other is a Barracuda/4 speed/ Dana.

Looking at the photo the car that is on the scale screen it the Barracuda. The photo on the IPad is the Dart. The Dart is at 3209lbs and Barracuda is 3249lbs. Ok….that makes sense, those freaking Dana’s weigh a ton but look at all the other totals…I just find it interesting.

And an 833.... I would trade 40 lbs. to get a Dana and a 4 gear. They look like too much fun!

Thanks for the info! My best guess my car is a "svelte" 3300lbs since I kept it all steel, minimal interior & caged.

The Fastbacks have some extra bracing in the rear seat area and that area between the wheels wells, when compared with the "x" brace behind the rear seat area of the Dart. Did that stuff stay intact on the Hemi cars -or did Hurst rip that stuff out? I have mini-tubbed my '67 Fastback, and had to cut out those bracing pieces and the rear seat attachment points. Probably 10-20 pounds of metal. I dont think that "x" brace ib my Dart weighs that much.

I would think that the fastback X brace would lend itself to resist body twisting.

The bodies had no modifications other than big block/convertible bracing. Back seats were removed and that is it.

Well let us narrow this down even more to the rear torque box only, that you found on the Formula S BB 4-speed cars, and most, if not all of the SB manual trans cars.
Have yet not seen any picture of any of the SS hemi´s having the front reinforcement box, that the convertibles had.

That is correct…we’re not 100% sure if they got the front boxes or the leaf spring support. In the notes I got from Bob Tarozzi he has all the specs for those reinforcement but nowhere does it say they were added. However I believe the answer lies in what was on the factory 383 cars. These BOs and LOs started life as 383 cars so if 383 cars got them then the Hemi cars got them. Last sentence.

I must correct myself here...in that all the BB cars had the rear leaf spring hanger mount boxed, not just the 4-speed cars.
