hedman "tight tube" hedders?

what about my old 66 barracuda chaps need headers give me some feedback please....

got a email response from Hedman and Summitracing that they indeed do fit and Summitracing sez if for some reason they don't to send them back unmolested and they will refund every penny.
 
I thought the header themselves fit easy. The issue was where they dumped out. You need to make custom headpipes and it was real tricky and tight.

Anyone run these that has ran thier exhaust to the back for a traditional hookup?

There was a on here from Sacramento (Kirk Ingram) that put a set of these on a 67-69 Barracuda years ago and had issues. Maybe hedman has changed things. Doesn't look like it from the pictures.

I saved the pics from years ago (2002?)...

what is the hp/tq loss when you switch from long tube to shorty headers? And do the shorty headers sound as good as full length?
 
most of the loss should be in the lower rpm range since shorter tubes generaly makes power at higher rpm compared to longer.

i think it may have solved alot of trouble if they had just let the collector on the driver side point about 45degres back

Whats the tricky part ? If they fit how hard is getting it hooked up to the rest of the exhaust ? Can tou explain .
 
I found a set of these at the swap meet yesterday, they indeed do fit a power steering car, there us a very small amount of rubbing on the gear box, i just need to massage the tube a little bit and barely hits the torsion bar mount with the collector. I'm talking a hair. As i install these ill be taking photos of progress, I did have to jack the motor up because of the power gear box, but it wasn't much at all and only drivers side.

I believe it's in the routing of the headpipe to get them above the steering linkage. I think you have to make a real sharp immediate turn to do this.

Now maybe you can run them straight down and under/around the suspension. But what's the point of that? Then youd have the same bad ground clearance headers if you bought cheapy full length ones.

WOW! Great news dak! Keep us up to speed and give us some pics for fodder too
 
Just put these in an hour ago. They went in super easy! Only problem I see is that the passenger side dump is partially over the steering linkage so you cant come straight down with it like the drivers side. You'll have to make an immediate 90*/45* from the header then another 90*/45* down. Not too hard to do really just the only set back. They are super loud by the way.... no running open headers with these hahahahahaha

looks promising, noticed you have manual steering which should help a lot. I need to stop being chicken$h!t and get a set but my P/S is scaring me (and I'm not willing to give it up!).
 
yeah I bought 3 U bends 2 1/2 inch. Im welding one almost 90 degree bend to the manifold itself (only because due to my motormounts the flange of the header is too close to my torsion bars to be able to bolt up). As soon as im done I will have pictures
 
I run a set of the tight tube's for about 7 years the only problem I had was were the tube's were welded into the collector thay would crack.

WHAAATT!?!? SS if I would have known you had them on your buggy (which is SWEET! by the way...) I would have picked your brain about them!:poke: You wouldn't have a pic of how you ran your pipes off of them would you?
 
Ive heard to use these short headers you need to change out the stock starter motor for the mini style starter. Is that true? how expensive are those mini starters.

This is true. I picked up a Summit brand for $150. Not too bad at all. Works great, pulls less amps. All around worth doing even if you dont have headers.
 
just pull a starter off of a dodge ram V8 pickup or a late 80's 5th Ave/Gran Fury V8 for a few bucks at the boneyard. Direct bolt on small body gear reduction unit. And take the pigtail off of the donor vehicle too so you ain't gotta do a hack job...

not yet. Just moved into a new house and havnt got settled yet but as soon as I am I will post pics.

I have a set, You should DUMP "Get rid of" the reducers at the flange. They choke the exhaust down to about 1.75-1.7/8 Inch right there. You will need to get different pipe to keep it at 2.5" for sure. That is what I did anyway.
 
does any one know if these will clear the Z-bar on a 4speed? just what I needed, one more thing to add to the list of things I want to get for my car, if only money was no object!:violent2:
