hi. quick question, im going to swap meet tomorrow and looking at getting a system from tti, show price of course and no shipping!

I have dougs headers. I would like just the 2.5" x-pipe for an "A" body, I dont want the whole kit because, im not sure if I want it to come all the way out the back...ive always liked it exiting in front of the rear tire...i think many of you dont like that idea from what i have been reading...i thought it would be okay, i understand its a little louder, and the possibility of smelling exhaust...but not sure...would like ur input. :)

I used to have this setup on my old 70 RR, all the years I had it. When I got it it had Cyclone (?) steel packs on it and was just THUNDEROUSLY loud. While it sounded good, and was NOT that objectionable in the car, I was a little more than worried about the Blue Meanies. One day some kid yanked a set of stockers off a brand new Superbee and threw 'em in the dumpster. I was right behind 'im and that very afternoon had the big Chrysler mufflers on the car.

Unfortunately I have no pictures of this setup.

One thing that is VERY nice about this -specially compared to a stock B body with the factory stuff, is it makes things VERY easy to drop out of the car for either the drags, pulling the clutch, etc. I had an H pipe up front, and the rear was braced together, so the whole "piece" would drop right out of the car

It's a personal preference thang:munky2:I prefer my 4 inch system :bootysha:

I am also wondering where and how will the mufflers fit underneath the car when it exits at the tire? I am thinking of using flowmaster 40's, (or something similiar) will those fit? or would I be forced to run a (enter your fav brand) [dynomax] "bullet" style muffler? and how do those sound? are they crazy loud?? I like that deep noticeable rumble...

That's pretty crazy, very interesting on how you got them big ole pipes over the axle???

I like it exiting in front of the rear tire. I say go for it!

I've always liked it too, I would like to see more setups, so if anyone has any, please post some pics and tell me what you have! thanks :)

As I said, mine was on my old '70 B body. I sold it to some stupid kid in the early '80's. Gauwd do I wish I'd kept that car. As I said, I put the factory RR/ Superbee/ GTX big factory mufflers on it.

Difficult to describe without pics, and WOULD I like to find the guy who bent them, probbly dead by now.

The tailpipes came out of the mufflers, immediately had a gently almost 90 out, then straight back maybe a foot in length under the rockers, then out at about 45 with big "baloney sliced" ends right in front of the outer edge of the tire. Marvelous sound.

Why not try a shorten version of the exhaust on an AAR or T/A?

IMO, it would be ALOT cheaper to fab on a X pipe rather than hack a resto exhaust.

After the headers, the X pipe goes on and then mufflers followed by a pair of ethier 45* or 90* bends. Add tips to hear people oooooo and ahhh.

YES! I LOVE BUS EXHAUST! :love7:

best place to fit mufflers is in the stock location on these cars you can place them up nice and tight under the rear seat anywhere else and the bottoms of the mufflers can be 5-6" lower than your floor. if you really want it out the side i think the best way is the aar style mufflers. dynomax has some i think spintec too. im about to build my 6th a body exhuast but i run them to the bumper.

Stay away from the X it is proven to produce less ponies then an H Take your fingers and follow the pattern its a no brainer. Actually robs ponies. Why would you want to cause a collision with your exhaust. Run it straight and use the H to equalize the back pressure. The X was a dream that they are still making money on . Looks cool but just think about it. Is it an X or two Y's?

When I put the X pipe on the Duster I got alot more low end torque. Vs.
the H pipe.
I put the x just behind the trans. Then used the 2 1/2 in. dumps from
Jegs. Put them in before the mufflers. This way when I go to the strip
all I have to do is open them up to run.
I still run a full exhaust to the bumper though.
Every mag has done a test on the diff. between the two setups.
The X pipe made more torque and HP.

None of this is true.

Why do Vipers sound like crap?
Is it because you hear only 1/2 of the exhaust.
From inside it is like cranking up the stereo and putting the left/right balance to about 75% left.

I am partial to hidden turn-downs. They take away alot of the 'blatiness' that tips give but you still get the rumble....

I don't like exhaust exiting in front of the tires it just looks halfassed to me i like it all the way to the rear but thats my opinion.

I think it looks badass.... I'm doing the same thing on my Dart, but I'll have a square tip where it exists flush with the rocker.

Spintech makes a muffler with in/out on the same end, should fit in the normal spot under the car. Last I spoke with them they can tweak there stuff to suit your taste and needs....

can you post a link to this proof?
There is always someone who wants proof. If their wife would tell them she is seing someone else they would still need proof. My proof is and was self proclaimed years ago, but they just ran a show on Speed and another chanel about Exhausts on the new mustangs. There was a significant difference in HP and torque on their dyno too. 30 plus loss with an X? I don't care what you do , use a T, Y, or a K. When two moving forses cross paths what would you think happens. An H does what it is suppose to do Equalize back pressure which helps balance the exit charge of the motors release of exhaust gas energy without restriction. Crucial in balancing the operation of a combustion engine. Prove it to yourself Take 2 **** pipes put an X in them and flush two loads at the same time and see what happens when they meet?. Wouldn't a straight run be more efficient. And then add a cross over so they flow at the same rate. Also did you know any exhaust length, past the reach of the flame is a restriction and anything shorter robs power . This is why race header installation requires you to paint 20 inch collectors, make a full pass and cut them off at the burn line. Then add cross over tube if possible. I do not think they suggest adding an X.

id like to know where you get your facts. thats all. im a skeptic and trust NO ONE. i was a skeptic of the X until i built one and i loved the sound alone. the system i built 11 years ago just from some stuff i had read in some mags. i looked at it scaled measurements off the dr.gas X and made my own in 3" as their prices were insane they were the only ones making the X and have been for many years. i spent a t&t night at the track trying to squeeze every .01 i could finally puleld the exhaust off and ran it, i pulled the plugs, jetted it up and it never ran any faster than with my 3" X pipe full system to the bumper. its a street car going high 11s and it worked. there had been a lot of testing, people have formulas to build the X. they do work. just like a merge collector, it looks like a restriction, but they do work. ive built a lot of exhausts, i did try building other style X junctions and they did not work good. were talking exhaust not poop.

This is not compairing apples to apples you are talking about a V12 Viper's exhaust note. I highly doubt a LA block is going to have the same note. I have never heard a LA block side exhaust either so i'm interested.
