x-pipe and exit in front of rear tires?

Do a search on the car called DustAAR, it has side exhaust

I just cut the over the axle exhaust off on my /6 car, and put a turndown right off the muffler. I actually think it helped with performance, plus it is louder, which wasnt an issue with me. Im thinking it flows better this way, and is better at getting the exhaust out quicker, with much less back pressure.

If you are going towards a race car, turdowns off the mufflers. Show car, cruiser, exhaust all the way out the back.

On the muffler : I have been a Flowmaster 40 series fan forever. In my opinion Flowmasters have the best sound of all the mufflers. Having said that, with there chambers flow comes to mind. I believe it has been proven that Magnaflow with there straight through design flows the best. So on my next car I will be going with some Magnaflow mufflers. H-pipe X-pipe there both good, X is suppose to flow better.

people have said for many years if you are goign to run a flow master go with the next pipe size up. i dont know if they are really that bad, i have heard of guys gaining time by switching to a straight through muffler from a flowmaster. i guess it really depends. maybe if the size pipe you are using is already on the small side. the only flowmasters i ever used resonated like no tomorrow in my car, enough that i will probably never give them another chance. they do sound great on other peoples cars though. lol.

I found a mangnaflow same side exit muffler that I'm going to use... its pricey though.

This is my buddies 68 Dart with side exit exhaust.. look how he tucked the pipes under the car after the trans pan for clearance. He also use standard single in/single out mufflers on his build.

the pipes are tucked up nice but look how low the mufflers are, they look at least 6" lower than if they were under the seat where they fit best.

Yes that is true but they don't hang lower than the dana or the four link either.

true but the dana or 4 link is not too likely to scrape anything, but those mufflers could be dragging on aprons and speed bumps. if really depends how you have the car setup. if you have it sitting up pretty high you can get away with it.

I'm sure there is some restriction but on street cars the loss is probably not enough to notice. Seems like the factory AAR's and TA's ran them that way at the races so must not have been that bad.

If your trying to get every little ounce of power on the street then I would say scrap any mufflers and run straight pipes all the way.....my opinion only.

I think the look and the sound is more important on a street car anyway..... not to many places on the street where you would want to test your 1/4 mile times. ](*,)

Wow, you actually believe they ran those mufflers on the race cars. If you gain power with a X pipe if you would put a couple in a row. It would really fly then. How many X's can you fit on an A

Stop bein such an ***. Both my Roadrunners had H pipes, but who knows, it may be that Ma used H instead of X because it's cheaper to build.

So far as running pipes at the drags, I guess you never heard of pure stock. The factory was certainly aware of exhaust restrictions, even if "some of us" were not.

Careful with the a word....I got banned for life a while back.

I died and was reincarnated as less of a jerk so I got new membership.

I digress.

It's all individual taste at our level. Unless your racing or OEM resto freak than it's pure taste and daring to do something different.

Ask me how many tips my exhaust has on it.....:toothy7:

I am not trrying to be an a** I gave my opinion on what I have experienced in 40 years of building alot of cars. I didn't ask to be condemmed on what I was trying to teach some of you what I have seen and learned over the years. My duster is running factory tips. I tried to keep the car the way it looked new nothing is missing except the heater hoses. It is not a drag car. I took it to the track and they told me I would need to get it certified to make another pass. It runs on pump gas, Shady dells motor dynoed by Ryan 693@ 7200 this new motor 829@8000 this is through the exhaust in a street car. I have tried the X myself. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNnUl-16Ib4"]YouTube - Vinny`s camaro wheelstand[/ame] this Z28 a good friend and neighbors camaro Frank soldridge PSI motorsports NMCA world record holder. This is the way we roll on the streets of Palmrton PA. It is a X brand but it dose'nt have an X pipe. I will try to get a video of my Duster on here I have no power add'ers. its a well built smallblock thanks to Barton and HTA. I am no way saying it is the fastest car on this site. But it shut up alot af big block big mouths last summer and Made me some $$$$ at the local airstrip. .[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF_8ZRCHpYk&feature=related"]YouTube - Johns big block twin turbo Camaro at numedia dragway 10-4-2009[/ame] . Another camaro from Franks shop. This Yenko is know in the mid 7's, Frank at PSI is our tuner in the area. These cars are all licenced and street driven. I don't take advice from someone trying to sell an item. They usually are not truthful. Or some one who has it their's is usually the best you can buy. What I am saying none of our cars have X pipes. If they were better they would still be on ,they are not. They were a waste of money for performance. Call up Barton see what he is running on his Street Hemi Darts and Cudas he sells. He dyno''s them and Guarranties 9's. The bottom line is I am not trying to piss in anyones ear. I only thought I was giving some wanted good advice. I am sure there are some on here that don't want to here they wasted their $$$ on their ride and will hate what I am saying. I can live with that. But it does'nt make me wrong.

A little about us. We try to compete in all types of local racing we can. ATV's nationally, dragracing, truck pull's, snowmobile drags, and sprint racing. If I am not on this computor in the shop I am at the track with my son. Want to spend some crusial time with him for memories. We alway's fly the MOPAR banner . Here is a pic of our 600 and in action. I am not an a** I am just enjoying my time left.

Those so called street cars probably could go 200mph on the streets.

I believe that the discussion was more about street driven cars with lower HP engines.

Your comparing an apple to a space shuttle. Your knowledge is not in question rather the aplication which you are comparing with.

X, H whatever there is probably data for both that makes them look better than the other. The info on X pipes, on real street cars that I have read say they are better....at least on older Mopar cars.

But what do I know.....I'm just an electrician. :shaking2:

Side exhaust kind of sound like an old John Deere 2 cylinder tractor. I agree that the Vipers and Corvettes with side exhaust sound like CRAP! Hope you don't have a nice stereo, because you won't be able to hear much of it anyway. Make sure you have a big box of earplugs-you'll need them. Also a hearing aid down the road. Just my opinion.

Well I just spent big bucks on sound deadener so I doubt I will have a problem with exhaust sound bothering me. Plus my stereo system is killer.. over 1200Watts so that shouldn't be a problem either.. and lastly I'm not a old fart who doesn't like the sound of Mopar muscle so I guess I good to go. :glasses2:
