hedman "tight tube" hedders?

-
haha, i got mine on and installed the summit exhaust system yesterday as well! Random timing eh...??

The Good:
I was able to finally put a full 2.5 inch exhaust on my car, and now only need to rebuild the carb to get it back on the road.

Sounds good and was the first time i've ever fabricated exhaust myself and wasn't too bad.

The Bad:
Yeah, ground clearance sucks! I doubt my passenger side pipes are more than 2.5 inches off the ground, infact its lower at the moment because the exhaust clamp is facing bolt down.

Realistically these prob won't work for everyone, I'm just going to have to crank a lil on my torsion bars to raise the front of the car up, and then watch out for speed bumps!

Overall:
I would only recommend these headers to someone in my same position.
Someone who has a out of whack K Member that makes it almost impossible for good header fitment. I still may make some adjustments to the pipes to raise them up a bit, but you definitely HAVE to either go under the exhaust or go with smaller piping.

I just went and took peak at mine, and I must have something way off on the exhaust kit, it is so low there's no way I can drive it around. Gonna have to conjure up a little bit more fab to get it all to work right, guess there's only one way to learn!

yes the steering rack conversion would help , that or relocate where the collectors are located .

just pretend your driving a Ferrari . So far I only scraped pipes once and it was a light hit , the hookers hit harder in the same spot and many more spots on my driveway .
Good to see I'm not the only one that had trouble hooking them up . Raining here today so no pics , will try again soon .

anyone here ever try the summit short headers for 340 -360 ? they look like the outlet is a bit higher up , maybe with these the pipes can be routed above the steering ? pic below , do they lok like the outlet is in a better position /
The clearance thing bothers me , I'll probably switch to manifolds next year , unless these summits can be routed above centre link , then I'd get them .
A real shame as these hedmans and probably summits just drop in , not lifting , no taking apart steering nothing . took longer to get the hookers off than get hedmans on .

on second thought , looks like it would not clear power steering box the way the outer pipes join on top of centre pipes

Oh cool , well im going to contact this muffler shop that seems have a really good reputation and do quailty work, and see if they can get my pipes tucked up closer to the car, i don't mind the low hanging headpipes but the rest of the tubes need to be pulled up. Once thats done i think i'll be golden.

Those headers will not clear the steering box...... Don't ask me how I know.

After installing the hedmans that's what I figured , the way the pipes are stacked on top of each other = no clearance . . If I were any good welding I'd cut and fix the hedmans for perfect fit and routing of collectors .

Got a set of those I can't get rid of .When I got them times were good and I thought maybe I would get an alter K tion front suspension. That's out of the question now.

Another thought about the Hedman tight tubes-has anyone talked to anyone at a professional muffler shop about a better way to route the exhaust? I have not seen any pics of these hooked up in a car so I was just wondering if a proffesional with lots of experience could come up with a better solution.

Not with GOOD flow . they can be hooked up with 90 degree bend and then a 45 degree bend . The guys that did mine are pros , really great systems they build , check out some of their work

By some of the posts I assumed everyone was fabbing up their own exhaust with these.
Too bad these don't work better ,they would be a nice alternative to long tube headers for some of us.

They would be perfect if the outlets were a bit higher offset 45 or more degrees towards the firewall instead of straight down or towards the front slightly . now mine go under the steering , clearance not great but flow and sound great , car runs strong , better than with the flattened hookers .

i fabbed up my headpipes to connect to a summit a body exhaust system, and if I have to fix it myself to have the rest of the exhaust not hang so low, but if these guys can do it at the shop for $50 bucks on a lift, its would be make a whole lot more sense than buying 2 u bends for $18 a piece and laying on the ground to try to get it to work. I'll keep yall updated

Can you take pictures of before and after /I'll try to remember my camera when I take it to the shop for suspension work this week and get pics of my exhaust setup .
Interested on how they will hook yours up .

If the clearances are the same as a Dart they should . Easiest header install ever , they really just dropped in , only hard part was collector to muffler , routing the pipes under steering .
I have not hit the pipes once since install , they are about 1/2" lower than transmission pan .
Put camera in car so will take pics next week on the lift to show how they clear
some top side pics

would they fit an early a. judging from summit id guess no, but my barracuda has an LA318 and i wasn't sure it wouldn't fit because of the car or engine. sorry if someone already asked this, but i thumbed through the thread and didn't see anyone ask.

MT the ones on Jerry's ride`have to be the ones from post#6 not the ones a few posts up. Be careful.
Andrew

These are the Hedman headers , not Summit , don't think summits would fit , Jmoper mentioned above the summits do not fit .
I'll have pics this week how the pipes are routed , camera is in car , will not forget to take pics . The shop that did my exhaust are one of the best , so the way mine are routed is about the only way to get 2 1/2" pipes hooked up . So far not one mark on the pipes from hitting bottom .

So as promised her are the pics of clearance and how pipes are routed from hedman tight tube collectors to mufflers

So far 2000 miles and not one hit , my old hookers would hit on my driveway no matter how careful I was , still careful but no hitting pipes . Hope the pics give you a good idea of how they can be routed .
Post pics of your completed hook up of tight tube collector to muffler pipes .
It would have been a big help to the guys bending up my pipes , hope you all have an easier time .
The pipes are 21/2" 304 stainless .
A BIG thanks to RAWTEK PERFORMANCE http://rawtekinc.com/Welcome.html they did a great job , took hours to figure how to route the pipes so they flow AND have clearance .
