I posted this on the B Body site and figured I would post it here also because it just rubs me the wrong way.

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed when you go to a supposed Mopar meet/show and there is a non-mopar section. I am not talking about AMC that's a gray area for another conversation. I don't want to see Fords GMs or imports at a mopar event. I would not take my Satellite or Challenger and show up at a Ford or Chevy meet, they dont want to see it there I'm sure. I went to a "mopar show" last week and got to see a Mustang an Impala, chevy pick ups a vega a porshe a Skylark and many other cars that I didn't want to see on this day including a 2011 Camaro (in case I didn't pass a Chevy dealer on the way I guess). When people in these cars show up why can't they politely be turned away just as you are when you show up in your 74 RR to a show that has a 1972 cut off?

i hate that. unfortunatley around here a Mopar only show would consist of all twelve cars from around the city lol. the Chevy and ford guys are attention whores and feel they don't get enough at their shows

I agree completely....and AMC cars were not built by Chrysler, and are NOT mopars in any way! I know AMC meets, and they don't let mopars in.

I think I went to the same show you did. The show flyer said "All Mopar Show" held at a Dodge dealership no less and as I'm standing there here come the Mustangs,55 Chevy, Buick, etc, ete, etc. Don't get me wrong I like ALL classic cars but a Mopar only show should be just that MOPARS ONLY.They shouldn't even have a parking area for "other Makes". I also agree that I wouldn't take my Dart or Coronet R/T to a Ford or Chevy only show,I just wouldn't do it. There's are a lot of shows out there that are for all makes to attend as to go to a show stated for "Mopars Only" with a Ford or GM. Just my 2 cents.

ya, you noticed that too in Colchester. M.I.M. needs to rethink this, as sooner or later theres going to be more and more belly buttons and blue ovals showing up taking up parking spaces in these small dealer lots, we have our shows at.

I'm going to count how many show up at the Mopar only show this Sunday at Golfland on Rt 83 in Vernon Ct. !!!!!:wack:

I think they should allow all makes at an all Mopar show.
Just park them well away from the Mopars in their own section.
That way when the Dodge monster truck runs over them, no Mopars will be hit by flying debris.
Come one, come all!

Lethbridge had to do that to keep it alive...And move it to Street Machine Weekend....Hmmmm

Here's a differing point of view for consideration. Our club, Inland Mopars, holds our annual "Mopars In May" all-Mopar show as a charity benefit show for the California School For The Deaf in Riverside (SoCal). Our 13th annual show will be on the school campus on May 19, 2013.
We have a "Non-Mopar" class because current students and alumni from CSDR are welcome to bring their cars and show them, no matter what the make.
Because of the show's reputation, we generally get 150-180 of the finest Mopars from SoCal and the surrounding area. We may get just a handful of non-Mopar cars.

First off I think its great that you guys do this for charity. My issue is when its advertised as "Mopar Only" and then it's not what you went for. I am in a different state of mind when I go to a "Mopar Only" meet vs an open meet. Why couldn't you just say that it's a car show sponsored by Inland Mopar? I have seen this done by other clubs both Mopar and the other guys clubs. This way you know what you are going to. To me only means only. To use my previous example, when you show up at a 72 and older only cruise with a 73 they say sorry but your car doesn't meet the requirements and you can't come in.

They had to crush them with monster trucks or let them in? But this is my point, if I go to Street Machine Weekend I am expecting to see all makes and models.

AMC are like orphans, they need a home, lol

I don't mind seeing them, its when like at Moparfest there is still Mopars newer then 25 years old, like 1 year old. It ruins the picture of all the oldies together

As I said, I started this same thread on the B body site. Here is a quote from over there, I agree with these people.

In a Mopar show, the only place for non-mopars (no matter how nice) is the SPECTATOR PARKING LOT!!!!!.

It was nice to be at the Chrysler Convention show today and see a Buick pull up to check in and get turned away. The guy understood, parked across the street and walked over imagine that.

Turn them away or have a separate area set aside away from the other cars. Why have a few newer cars mixed in with 99% pre 80's cars. OK maybe they are special but have a certain area they go to away from the pack of cars - don't park it next to 40 - 50 year old cars

The Mopar club here is defunct now so they have the show at the exhibition grounds. And as an added bonus it's close to Clarence's Dodge dealership that sponsors the event so he doesn't have to drive his cars too far to win the obligatory half dozen trophies he hands out to himself and his buddies.
I didn't even bother going this year, did you?
It was about 50% other makes 2 years ago, so why bother?
Is the show in Red Deer or surrounding areas better or worse?
Just curious, Kori.
Tom.

Well I said I was gonna count how many "non Mopar" cars were at the all Mopar show in Vernon,Ct yesterday. While I was there I saw only two, an early Jeepster and an AMX (which I guess some consider part of the Mopar family) All other brands were turned around at the gate!!! Thats what I'm talking about!!! It was a great show!!!

The Central Alberta Mopar group is getting smaller and barely holding on BUT still managed to get 175 cars here this past Saturday...ALL MoPar...Still the Largest Mopar show in Alberta! And rare stuff too..5 wing cars for eg.
THe show moved away from the Exhibition grounds to the Mall...right across the street from the Dodge Dealer...who brought about 5 of his cars. I dont think he registered them and were display only..which was nice

Tom,

You should probably get your facts straight before saying something like that. Clarences cars have never ever been entered in the show since he became the main sponsor. Display only, and even then only a few. It was also moved to an area that provided shade and was closer to other activities going on the same weekend, sounds like good planning to me. When was the last time you brought a car to a show??

Kori, the show also changed to the same weekend as street machine weekend so people travelling could take part in all the car related activities all weekend long. Some people can't commit to more than one free weekend a month. Everybodies lives are getting busier it seems. We were always getting 100-125 cars before allowing with friends so it was hardly dwindling.

People have less money to spend nowadays towards non-essentials items so bundling is a way to give more for less, think about it.

Moparfest made the decision this year to allow some newer model cars in as a way to promote the hobby to the next generation , was I happy getting stuck in the hot sun behind 2 dozen new Chally's moving at a snails pace-no , but I understand the logic I just wish they would have done a better job segregating them from the pre 86 Mopars the show is for , they also were not entered into any of the shows Participant raffles so other than the gull wing LX car or the occasional Kcar they weren't that bad to have around. A seperate section for "Others" would solve this problem at most shows .

I thought it was to make the dealers - sponsors happy to promote their new cars they sell everyday

They have always had a display area for the dealers to show their new product, and since every penny raised by the show goes to charity there really isn't a profit motive either , a great many of the people buying new Challengers are the same people who own older Mopars and they want to do what they did 33 years ago when the show started -show off their cars .

There is always a motive to increase sponsorship.

I just hate to see the show go like Carlisle where every year car is allowed if enough cash was put in to the car.
