Can you run Glass packs or cherry bombs and still get the muscle car sound.

I wouldn't put glasspacks on anything I own. There are way better sounding mufflers out there. A very deep rumble (turbo mufflers of your choice) sounds more like a muscle car sound to me than a raspy glasspack sound.

Ok ... you live in GA and I live in SC. You can get away with no mufflers at all just straight headers IF you keep it cool in town. The law in our area doesnt seem to care what a car sounds like. I drove my cuda for a while without mufflers. It set car alarms off. lol I installed Dynomax Ultras "welded" and called it day however since I didn't want my car loud. Like I say though if you want it loud you and sound good no mufflers.
 
I so agree with my man above!
But if glass packs are your cup of tea, I won't spill it on you. I just do not here muscle car with glass packs, I here cheap band aid fix.
 
to me turbo mufflers sound the most correct seeing they were available back then. (yes I know glass packs were too)
 
Glass packs rob HP big time. If that doesn't matter, put them on. I have 3" TTI exhaust on my Barracuda with 12" by 2 1/2" glass packs in the tail pipes for drone. They cost me 2 MPH and .2 at the strip. Big mistake!! They are cheap for a reason.

Everything's subjective. If you can find two people who agree with you on what a correct "musclecar sound" is, I'd start with them.

People seldom agree on what sounds "good" and "bad".

I have dual 3" exhaust behind my 408 with summit welded mufflers - they do exactly what you want...:D. But interior resonance is no fun at all - will change to a set of magnaflows this winter.

flowmaster 40's or super 44's....those are loud...

glass packs belong on those long *** impala's with acid paint jobs and baby daytons, on hydraulics bumping down the street.
 
I wouldn't mess with those Fagnaflows either.... I've heard them and they don't sound as good as other mufflers.
 
I bought my wifes dart with 318 headers, dual exhaust and glass packs and it sounds better than I thought. But my bigblock coronet has headers, dual exhaust with the Dynomax Super Turbos and it is a nicer deeper sound. If you want real loud go with the Flowmasters above, they are my favourite sound but could get old if your cruising far distances.
 
I loved the Walker turbos I had on my 340 (2 1/2 all the way)-sounded great (of course the huge cam was part of that) but wasn't really 'loud'.

At least not 'loud for the sake of being loud' like glasspacks give you.
 
Just say no to Flowmasters. :puke:

I run Summit glasspaks on my Challenger. Video isn't the best, this is when I still had the exhaust dumped at the axle. They are LOUD. Not as loud now that I have the tailpipes on it, but still plenty loud. It still sets off car alarms when I drive around parking lots with it.

i have off brand flowies they sound great fomasters and i have a cheapo thrush welded muffler that sounds good but i need the after market exhaust to go with it not enough flow with stock and aftermarket muff
 
Lots of glass packs have a diameter reduction after the pipe gets into the body of the muffler. Many also have directional divits or holes stamped inwards that can either mildly hinder or moderately hinder flow as well depending on which way you face the divits inside the tube.

Many race type mufflers are glass packs which do not narrow down while the tube runs thru the body of the muffler and the holes in the tube inside the muffler are drilled holes rather than stamped flutes or divits that protrude into the tube.

A glass pack muffler which is designed and sized properly is actually a tuned chamber which can reduce drone considerably, secondly the packing or wading absorbs other frequencies and volume in the exhaust note.

That being said, glasspacks sound great when used properly. I had a pair of 32" glass packs duals which were 2.5" at the center of the tube id inside the muffler and 3" inlet/outlet. They were pretty darn quiet.

Part of what makes a good sounding exhaust is the piping. A smooth route, good welds and good smooth flow, running out to the bumper. On the other hand lots of irregularities, weld protrusions and globs inside the pipe, transitions in size and harsh bends can add a fluffy wheeze to the sound rather than clean clear note.

Because most normal glass packs neck down at least 1/2 " or more when the tube runs inside the muffler, this causes a reflection wave back up the pipe towards the engine which can f-up velocity, scavenging and flow. Maybe that is why they sound like they do, which is to say, they sound pretty sweet.
