glass pack and and muscle car sound

Engine has a narrow lobe center purple shaft in it,by video.My guess, the .484 by sound.
 
I ran Flowtech Terminators in a full 2.5" system on my 383 Fury. They were very deep compared to any Flowmaster I have ever heard. It gave the car a nice but not too loud rumble at idle, no resonance or excessive loudness at cruising speeds, yet they were pretty damn loud when you stood on it. They are solid and heavy which is probably why they don't resonate like FM's and hold up so well.

Looking for 3in
 
On my 360 with 273 manifolds, I have a 2 1/2" dual exhaust with no crossover run straight out the back through a pair of El cheapo brand X glass packs. It has a real nice sound at idle, but what amazes me, it the fact that the faster I go, the quieter it gets. There is no drone thought the entire rpm range that I drive. I know that from the exhaust tips to the manifolds, this system is 100% wrong as far as performance is concerned. As soon as my piggy bank gets a little fatter, or i win the lottery, my plan is to get a set of TTI's with a crossover pipe and a set of thrush welded mufflers. Maybe I can uncork a few of those ponies in the 360.
 
I have a pair of Stainless Works T-304 stainless turbo mufflers that a buddy put on his car, started it and decided it wasn't loud enough and took them off. He paid like $160 ea. If your interested in them pm me. Shipping would prob be a killer tho.
 
I have 2 1/4 into 2 1/2 Magnaflow Magnapacks back to 2 1/4 they sound awsome quite loud i love them, all stainless case with stainless packing [like a glass pack]. I just installed a Jones Exhaust Flowsound single chamber [3/dual 2 1/2] on my ram truck it too sounds great [not as loud as i thought it would be] but loud enough.The Flowsound was on Ebay for 25.99 plus shipping [with a warranty].

With a .508 Purple Shaft,it be loud.2 chambers Flowmasters,3 inch Pipes made my ears bleed ,same combo in a 4x truck.

I thought that thing sounded cool at the time. People in the cemetery would sit up when he drove past with his foot in it. Today, it would be way too loud for me.

Way back, on my 396 Chevelle, after awhile the glasspacks were a wide spot in the line...currently the glass packs on my tired 65 273 'cuda give it some hope..:0

Somewhere I have archived an article from HotRod magazine that featured multiple mufflers with flow comparisons and db. Don't recall the engine used, though..
 
Should be an issue from about 1973. I have the article here if you cannot find it.

I second that, big time. I think their sound sucks. They sound tinny to me when revving up through the gears. Glasspacks? Hell yeah. Dumped right before the rear axle with chrome flared turn-downs. But I like them a bit longer, like 24". Let me repeat......Flowmasters suck!! :finga:

Glass packs about 3 feet behind your collector, then another resonator behind your tip. Fowmaster's sound like you are playing a 55 gallon drum with a stick at idle.
 
I wouldn't mind trying a pair of these Dynomax bad boys. I don't think they're that cheap though.

x2 glasspacks are for 53 chevies with stovebolt 6 cylinder engines.all the "bombs' around here have them.they have a raspy sound unlike a deeptoned oval or welded turbo or hemi style muffler.ted nice info on the time/power loss:glasses7:
 
If it is loud you want then just get some cut outs. I like to go back and forth between loud and good sounding so i did cut outs and then flowmaster super 40's.. Even though I have the mufflers I rarely run them. After driving the car with open cut outs for nearly 4 years I have only had one cop say anything to me. It is very inconvinet though and I would def. not run them on a daily driver. I have to turn the car off at drive throughs and talking to someone else in the car gets to be alot of work. If you have the money go with the electric cut outs and you can have the best of both worlds at the flip of a switch.

Those are Ultra-Flos right? My cousin has those on his '72 Polara with a 440 and it sounds great, just about perfect loudness in every way. Very deep and throaty, and no resonance.
 
IMO loud on the street sounds cheap. Let the tires do the BARKING!
I love a DEEP LOW RUMBLE and I wont tolerate an annoying drone at cruise speed.
Balance, a bit louder than the stock Hemi exhaust.
I'll gladly give up a tenth or two for that '"professionally finished" sound.

In the late 80's, I had dual glasspacks on my 75 Duster(daily driver/beater). Driving down the street at about 25 I would drop it into 1st(3 speed manual)if I saw someone about to cross the street in front of me, it usually got their attention. I loved the sound then. When I bought the 67 Dart Convertible, it had, still has and always will have the single exhaust, my brother asked me when I was going to do something about the quiet exhaust, never.
Would I put glasspacks on a A-body? Yes if I were going for a certain theme(say a 70's, 80's theme)or I was going to replicate the 75 Duster I had, albeit it would have better paint, a non cracked vinyl top.

well I got a new set of magnaflows on my 360 2 1/2 pipes dumped at the rear end and it sounds awesome sounds better than my friends with 40 flowmasters on it so guess you got the wrong ones lol also my shop gave me a deal for 50 bucks for both they were used once on a dyno
