6pakattack Time

I Know this is "hindsight", But this is a good reason for a oil pressure/fuel pump safety switch. If the switch does not see oil pressure, the fuel pump does not run. When I ran circle track, that was required, if you had an electric pump. I do not have it on my current drag cars, but since you rattled the brain cells, it will be the next thing I do, on them.

Sounds like a good idea, Charrlie!

Woo Hoo, ALMOST !!!!Stopped by to check on the Buzzin Half Dozen TODAY !RMD and 2 other Dash pieces are in and functional,2 fender mounted turn signal from Dave (340 Mouse)installed and functional, and the Gear Venders shaft finally came in. So that should go in today or tomorrow. All I need then is Exhaust. I've got the mufflers (Dyno Max Race Bullets), X pipe, and dual '71 Charger slotted tips !!! It's coming

2 steps back again !!!Driveshaft (major PIMA)too short, need to get measurement again and see if they can get it right THIS time (5)!!! And time to try a smaller Carb !!! "Maybe" these are the "LAST" 2 obstacles, besides the exhaust ? Man I hope !!!!!!!!!

Dennis, just be glad you aren't removing the cylinder head to install O-rings... (I spent the day doing that...)

That, due to a blown head gasket...

Don't ever think you'd trade YOUR troubles for somebody else's....:violent1:

If it got to that point Bill,I think I'd just sell the beast !!!

Cars like this aren't worth anything....

If I thought I could recoup fifty-cents on the dollar, I'd sell it in a New York minute, but no chance of that....

So.... I live with it.:eek:ops:

To top it off, I fell down and found out that my face isn't NEARLY as solid as the trunklid of Feddie's '74 Lincoln Continental... and I'll have a nice shiner to prove it... and I think I may have fractured a rib.... sore as hell...

Gettin old ain't fer sissies... :sad5:

turn that damn carb!

If I turned it,1.it would look ridiculous because then I'd have to turn the air cleaner the same direction and that look like chitt with the style air cleaner I'm using,2.then I'd have to go back and redo my throttle linkage which would mean new throttle cable and linkage bracket fabrication,3.I'm tired, I just want to get it done and enjoy it !! My last 2 ran just fine, so I'll stick with what I know works and save myself more grief !!

What are the advantages of turning the carb on what is essentially a single-plane manifold like the Aussie Hurricane, Ed?

My carb isn't turned on my Offy manifold because the adapter plate was not drilled to be turned. Is it really an issue?

Fuel flow ! Instead of the fuel being drawn from 2 barrels sideways, it draws from both barrels at the front ! At least that's my simple explanation !! I know what he's talking about, it's just that the manifold wasn't drilled to allow that, so I left well enough alone !! My two other 6's ran fine with the carbs the same direction so I'm not going to sweat it .

Are you talking about fuel flow or air flow??? Or both?

Also, since it's an open-plenum manifold, there is the same vacuum signal beneath the venturis no matter how it's turned, isn't there?

If that's true, what would be the advantage of rotating it 90-degrees?

There's obviously something I don't understand, here.

Vacuum is vacuum. The amount of vacuum acting on the carburetor is not going to change with an open plenum manifold like this, no matter how the carb is oriented. Is it???

I just can't see it... explain it to me. Please...:violent1:

OMG, finally I have my driveshaft back !! Unfortunately, not early enough to get it installed to be able to check it out before we head to the muffler shop !! Oh well, what's another few days ? Yet one more step closer !!
On a positive note, the 390 Holley is working fine now, and the 340 Dipstick and Tube have a happy new home on my / !! Just gonna have to wait till Monday and see how far I get !!! :burnout::burnout::burnout:

Still waiting for an answer to this...

Bill, Vacuum has nothing to do with it. It is air flow and fuel flow. And to a lesser extent the fuel "sloosh" in the float bowls. As the air/fuel flow leaves the bottom of the carb, it has to turn, several times to get to the cylinders. Fuel can drop out of suspension. You want the oriention of the carb to give the most equal air/fuel distribution. Even the amount the throttle blades are open effects how the air/fuel flows. Look at the old Direct Connection books, where they talk about "Dams" in the manifold runners, and different radius on the entrance to the runners. With a slant six I don't Know which way is better, as I have never tried back to back tests. On my 170 I run a 500 2bbl mounted side ways. On my 225, I have a 465 4 bbl mounted "normally" like a V-8.

Charrlie,

Thanks for the explanation.

Do you think there's any advantage, one way or another, in an engine running say, fifteen pounds of boost in a blow-thru?

Woo Hoo, finally going to pick up tomorrow afternoon and take it to get the exhaust made up !!! What a helluva Birthday Present !!! :blob::blob::blob::blob::blob:

Well, happy birthday, whenever it is!!!

The BUZZIN HALF DOZEN is home and ready to cruise ! One more prob I found though, a bent axle shaft !! No prob,my mechanic has one in his shop and should be able to take care of it next week !!! Now if these friggin rains would go away !!!!

Yes I have Bill !!! Going to have to check into some type of Racing fuel to add to mine to eliminate knock !! Successfully made its maiden voyage to our local cruise-in,so that was a good thing !!
