Why the /6

...The introduction of the PISHTA-designed exhaust system/turbo mount has helped facilitate the installation procedure
...
... enjoy a smooth idle, great driveability and probably better-than-stock gas mileage,

Pista's exhaust tube is the easiest way to go. I am surprised someone hasn't started selling those yet. In M-B world, a guy sells a similar exhaust tube w/ flanges to bypass the problematic catalytic converter used only on 1985 CA diesels, which is a very small market. Slants were in vehicles for 2 decades. I bet many truck guys would like a turbo too.

I doubt a turbo would improve idle or driveability, since it doesn't contribute much until >2500 rpm. I think the hope of better mileage is unfounded. Mileage comes at low throttle. There is no advantage in boosting the pressure just to throttle it back down. In cars, the mileage comes from allowing a smaller engine to give higher HP when needed, so by letting you be happy keeping a slant saves gas over converting to a 440. In diesels, a turbo does improve mileage since they have no throttle. The recovered energy goes into the input.

I inherited a 1983 Dodge Power Ram a few years back. It was my grandfathers, and he used it to haul gravity boxes to town. 225 slant backed by an NP435 granny gear 4 speed. In stock computer controlled choked 1bbl form, I had to floor it to maintain speed up any hill. Put a Carter AFB from a 273 on it with an Offenhauser 4bbl intake, converted to standard Chrysler electronic ignition, and freed up the exhaust. Takes hills with ease and finally keeps up with traffic:) I remember riding on the passenger side into town with wagons as a kid in the 90s. Currently I've collected most of the stuff I need to build a draw through turbo setup for 8psi.

People ask me why I do not go v8. First off, the original slant has but 110k miles on it, so lots of life left. Also, I do not need to buy a different radiator, motor mounts, bellhousing, throttle linkage, exhaust, or a different engine itself, let alone one that is not in need of rebuild that would put me anywhere close to my under $400 spent on my turbo set up so far. Going to start the build soon too:) I have achieved 16mpg highway, and am looking for a few more mpgs and a bit more pep, as well as the fun of the build.

This is a 4 wheel drive? I am curious cause I didnt think they put the 435 behind 2 wheel. I have same truck but an 86 and 4 wheel.

Yes, it is a 4 wheel drive (W150) long box regular cab truck with a /6 and 4 speed. The slant six with the manual trans on this truck was called the "Miser package" in 83. 2wd versions had an overdrive 833 4 speed. The 4wd's got the np435 with the granny gear. 6.68:1 for first gear and 8.26:1 reverse gear. Great for backing stuff up! SLOWLY.. haha

To top the weirdness of my truck off, it has factory A/C! I will have to post build sheet pics.

I would love to see pics of your truck, if you are interested you can see pics of what I went thru on my own here.........http://ramchargercentral.com/vehicle-help/1986-dodge/msg1867195/#msg1867195.............

Solid truck to start with ( except 2 problem areas where factory seam sealers are known to go bad ) but unfortunately used and very abused by the time I got it.

I am looking for another, almost given up on in state find, found one that I thought would be real nice to work with in Seattle but seller refused to work with me on getting it transported. Just did not want the hassle I guess.

I bought a 2 W.D this past weekend, not sure what Im gonna do with it yet.

It hurts to see the Barracuda E Body Slant Six. Back in 1976 I found a Challenger with a Slanty and made the owner a solid offer to buy it. A week later he was 'T' Boned by a drunk and the car was a total loss. My Mother and Father owned a 1968 Belvedere 4 door with a Slanty, refused to sell it to me and sold it to my sister who destroyed and then junked it. I never have had anything other than a 'A' Body with a Slanty. Dang it! And I am ALWAYS looking for a Pick-up with a Slanty!

I had a 72 d100 with a 318 and np435. does anyone want to trade me a /6 np435 bell for the 318 one I have? I'm keeping the 435.

My Dream, Slant six, vehicle is a 1964 to 1970 Dodge A100 Pick-up. The truck has to be in good enough shape to restore without replacing 90% of the body. There was a fresh barn find in Santa Cruz last month. TWO of them were in the offering and they both disappeared before I found out about them. I'd pull out all the stops for that machine, first class all the way!

brought her home and unloaded last Friday :)

Paul ..... they are still out there (in the last few months I've seen 3 Slanted e-bodies for sale -all projects, but out there) ... keep looking

I have owned a 70 Challenger with a slant. IIRC it was a "Deputy" model with fixed quarter windows. It was too rusty to save (at that time). Have also owned a 71 Charger with the slant. My wife called it "The Beast" because it was slow slow off the line but cruised quite nicely at 70. Myst have had 2.76 gears in it!.

EDIT: Oh yea, my 87 D100 is slant/904 equipped!

Not to repeat myself but I wouldnt change a thing other than cleaning it up and maiking it more presentable. You have a piece of history that very few will ever have the opportunity to own so be gentle with it.

Got so lucky and found a '75 slant engine on CL for $100. The '75 has the peanut plugs and hardened seats, but still had the forged crank. Exactly what I wanted! Got my 1.70/1.44 valves. Now trying to figure out how to retrofit my B&M blower to it!

I got slant sickness! Somebody stop me!

I am 51, and have had my fill of "normal" engines and cookie cutter hotrods. Look! There's a Duster! Open the hood! Oh, its a crate 360. *yawn*

hey, I get the same reaction when I see a /6 or a new hemi under the hood..and with the /6, I just feel bad for the person...

i'll put my old worthless gesser comment on here now, so the next guy can have the glory of posting #300.
havin being one that has had bout ever engine and body style mopar one time or another, I will make this comment: I , personally get my rush from driving the car down the road. gives me a thrill whether a honkin bb, high horse SB, smog 318, good runnin slant, what have ya.
then again, once I knew an "oldgesser" that was too old to drive. he would go out everyday and start his 440 69 charger RT, just sit there and listen to it run!
OK some will tell me this is a slant thread.
others will tell me the "old gesserr" is a d--- horder!
others will say: the next reply will be #300 and don't give a s--- what some say about the slant, THAT's COOL!????

It was a direct response to this crud.....treat it as such...
