Summit Electric Cutout Kits Beware!

Beware when ordering these kits with the electric cutout and cutout tubing that they are only made to fit ONE SIDE! There is not an opposite to mirror the fitment to the other side. I stayed up until 3 am last night (still made it to work at 7) getting the entire exhaust built, only to find out that the driver's side cutout will only work if you install the motor UNDER the exhaust pipe pointing the same direction as the passenger side. This is obviously a hazard of ripping the motor completely off. Since I only happened to check the passenger side for the angle of the cutouts because that's where I was most concerned with clearance, I'm kinda screwed now. I was assuming that they gave an opposite part in the kit since nothing was adjustable. But not the case. Else I would have cut the flange off and rotated it while out of the car and re-welded it back. But now it's all in place, bolted in and painted. :banghead: I thought maybe I got 2 right side cutouts in my kit, but according Summit (I stumped their tech guys for 40 minutes on the issue until they finally understood), the cutout pipes and electric cutouts are all identical and they told me it's not their problem. They said I'll have to cut the flange off and re-weld it or install one with a rotating flange. Yeah real easy to say sitting at your desk A$$HOLE! Why didn't you provide that in you're piece of **** kit!? Summit can go get bent as far as I'm concerned. I'm done with them. And I'll put money on it that one of these cutouts will leak and I'll still have to return them. Sorry for the rant but I'm tired and extremely irritated at the moment. I just wanted to give a heads up cause I know these are tempting to buy due to their price point. I got suckered into it obviously.
 
I bought the 05-0022 3" kit.
 
One funny thing the guy said: "You know, this might be why we have a higher than normal return rate on these". That right there should tell you something.
 
Sorry to hear about your grief, i had a bad deal as well with some China junk made for Summit. I wont shop there again, their customer service is terrible.
 
A pic would be nice,, and there are 3 - 5 star reviews..

Looking at the Summit pic shows it should rotate into 3 positions,, and flip over the actuator for opposite/mirror (left/right) side... ???

There was only a 1 or 2 start review for that particular kit that I bought. There will be another low star review soon I assure you. Yes it can flip and rotate to any of the 3 bolt positions, but the positions are nowhere close to the same as the right side because it is not a mirrored part. One position points the motor almost straight down, one kicks it up into the floorboard towards the driver, and the other position (the position it's in now) points the motor towards the passenger side under the exhaust pipe. If I flipped the electric cutout and installed it backwards, it would work. But it's made to have only one particular side facing out. That's why one of the parts should be mirrored from the other side.

Do the instructions state you can't flip the actuator,, or is there a flange diff from side to side,, cuz the actuator prob doesn't care which way it turns.. just wondering,. ?? thnx
 
Looks like 21/2" and 3" use same electric cutout just different Y pipe. That sure as hell won't work. The more I look the cutout flange is same size so should work. Seems like as said you should be able to flip it over. No?
 
The side that faces out is polished and smooth. The opposite side is not and has screws showing as well as the bar that goes across so it's partially an aesthetic issue for me. Also I'm not sure that the exhaust pressure was made to hit that side of the flap. Would it leak? Maybe. Maybe not. Summit talked like it should not be turned backwards. But maybe it wouldn't matter. Sure would be easier to do it that way than cutting and welding again. I'll look at the way it's designed when I get home and see if it would matter. In reality, no one will probably know the difference except me if it were turned backward.
 
I never have understood why people want such hokey bullshit as exhaust cutouts. That's almost as bad as curb feelers and air fresheners.
 
It's strictly a noise maker. Not for power or anything else. Did anyone ask your opinion on what you thought of them? Hmm yeah didn't think so. Take your useless opinion elsewhere.

When you toss something like this out into open forum, you are bound to get opinions that may not directly agree with you....that is the nature of the beast..

I think you need to chill out and grow up with your comments...just sayin...
 
Yeah he is always spouting his mouth off about something he doesn't even have a clue of!
 
I like FABO because of the diverse opinions ... and what folks do with their cars...it opens up options for you..

Does the motor unbolt from the flange? If so what about removing the baffle and flipping the motor 180 degrees and bolt everything back together again.

This isn't a thread about whether or not people like cutouts. I was merely giving people a heads up about a product so it was to be informative for others who may be interested in that product. Others chimed in to help out or to give some helpful feedback while others seem to think we all want to hear about their feelings towards that type of product when it has no relevancy. If they want to express their personal feelings on this thread, then I'm gonna express mine too. And somehow that makes me the bad guy here. SMH

The motor actually would need to go on the other side of the flange where there isn't anything to bolt up to. I'm just trying to get things ready to start the motor tomorrow so I'm leaving it like it is, see if they leak, then flip the driver's side backward and see if it leaks. It looks like the way it is set up, the larger side of the flapper takes resistance from the exhaust to keep it shut. Flipped, the small side will try to do that job so the motor may not keep it shut completely. I'll report back with results.

You are missing what I am saying or I am missing the boat. The issue is the other side of the flapper needs to be rotated 180 degrees, correct? The part the the flapper won't allow that as it is because the shaft is in the wrong place, correct? Flipping the motor 180 degrees would flip the shaft 180 degrees, correct? Bolting the flapper back on would put it on the correct side and allow the motor to be on the other side where you want it, correct. It would put the now rear of the flange/flapper as the front of the flange which would result with the motor being on the opposite side and still be bolted to the same place as it is now. Maybe I am dreaming but this works in my head real well.
