Summit Electric Cutout Kits Beware!

-
If you want sit there and be a grump, be my guest. Keep spreading your cheer on the forum for all to see who you are. You're only making yourself look bad my friend. I'm done with this stupid little spat with you. Time to move on.

If you didn't insist on runnin something stupid on your car, you'd never have had this problem.

I think you'll need to index or add new "holes" to the cutout flange to rotate the assembly.
I believe what Clint is saying is the flapper stop will be on the wrong side (or outside) of the exhaust pressure when closed if flipped right to left. He would be relying on the motor to hold a closed position.

But what Bill and I are recommending would fix that. Just take the motor off, remove the flapper and turn the whole thing around.

and yes i have frame ties. HUGE ONES. they are 3x3" i have all kinds of room. i dont think they are stupid. in fact everyone that sees/hears my car in person think they are awesome.

Looking at the picture in post 19 and comparing to Clint's install, it appears there are flap stops on either side of the plate. If that is the case then I would say Bill and your solution is the best!

Now I see why the triangle is always pointed up... pointed down just leaves something else to drag and get messed up. I have to look at this since we don't have the best roads in the country and seen so much tore up from them.

if your exhaust is done well you will never have to worry about it. my exhaust is a 3" tti kit. my exhaust sits up higher then the rest of my under carriage. you can see in my first pic how tight to the floor it is. I have never had anything on my car scrape yet and my car sits much lower then most.

The car fired! That was good. Now the bad. The cutouts worked for a bit then the toggle switch went bad! Now they are stuck wide open. Summit quality parts. Jeez. Every damn thing I buy craps out. So if you guys were thinking about these, here's another problem I've already had with them. Just consider is all I'm saying. $100 more for Doug's would have been well worth it.

Mine is TTI 3" as well. I got the idea from you actually!

I was looking at electric cut outs for a long time. I just can't justify spending the money on them. Maybe it's because I'm still young but when I want to mess with them I have no problem crawling under my car. Yes it would be nice to be able to have it change at the push of a button but not nice enough. Rustyratrod you sort of came in looking for a fight. If you think cutouts are stupid then read the title and skip over the forum and keep your opinion in your head. Sort of like walking into a Mexican restaurant and complaining about how terrible Mexican food is.

It sucks that you're having all these problems. I have the QTP setup (looks to be the name brand for your store brand parts) on my car. They fit up snug to the floor board. The toggle switch is definitely different than yours though. Mine work great, and based on the research I did on this car the cutouts have been on it since the mid '90's. They were on the car when I bought it a few years ago. I can take pics of my setup if you need.

My thoughts exactly. It's like he needs more attention on here than a newborn. He doesn't like cutouts because they make more noise than he does and that's competition he doesn't like.

Called up Summit and they're sending out another wiring harness for me. They couldn't send the switch alone without the wiring harness and the guy said they'll scrap what I send back. So he told me to keep everything and not return the parts so it looks like I'll have an extra set of wiring.

Once again, a personal attack. Come on...yes, he doesn't like cut outs. Period.

What are you expecting to achieve with the last dig ? Another response ?

Clinteg, I hope what you learned from this fun time with cutouts is, mockup. I've been there before, excited about the new parts and rushing the job to get it done only to realize, whoops, I screwed that up. Oh well, that's one way to learn. In the end it turns out and you take away something you didn't know before.

Rusty was trying to help you, listen to his message, not his opinions. He does have a warm charming personality.

I have returned many things to Summit. IMO they are hands down better than Jegs as far as customer service.

I will say this, summit has never asked one question when I had to return something. they sent me a new part , and a return shipping label with it to send my other part back.

that's all I got

I'm just simply stating my opinion. My opinion should have no merit. This is the freakin internet. people are gonna irritate people and say things others don't like. It's going to go both ways. That's just how it is. Do I want another response? No. Will he respond. I'm sure he will. I'm just glad that someone else at least acknowledged that he came in here looking for it.

Yes, late late night, rushing to get things ready, probably not thinking clearly. Like I said before, I'm going to trip up and I just have to learn the hard way.

Rusty WAS NOT trying to help in any way when he made his presence in here. He didn't try to start helping until I called him out. And I stated that I appreciated his help when he did but his first comment was of no help at all and that he should take his opinion elsewhere. That's all. And now it's escalated into one of these this little spats that I have avoided since I joined here. I've talked to the guy on the phone 2 or 3 times before. He seemed like a great guy, knowledegable, from what he told me had been there since the beginnings of the drag wars in the 60's IIRC. I had no issues whatsoever with the guy and wouldn't mind another conversation about his early years. I truly enjoyed hearing about that stuff. Although he kinda screwed me around telling me that he wanted about $600-$700 worth of parts I was selling, strung me out for some time while I turned other interested parties away, and then said he didn't want any of it anymore. I'm not sour about it. I sold the parts later anyhow. But he seemed like a genuine guy. It's just that I was already irritated with a lot of things and his initial comment just set me off a little. This whole build is taking it's toll on me and I'm lashing out more than I normally would. So to hopefully end this all so we can all be a happy community here, Rusty I apologize I lashed out and I will make no further negative comments toward you.

It's been that way in the past for me. I don't have problems with their returns. It was just the fact that their product really isn't just a plug and play system like some other systems and they tell you "not our problem". That's all.

Quiet exhaust systems are for grumpy grampas. Don't listen to the haterrrrrrs

Just boxed up a pair I bought from Summit. On their way back and have a pair of Doug's heading this way. I personally like the ability to go from muffled to X-pipe myself, or somewhere in between. Especially handy when a loud Harley pulls up next to me making a bunch of noise, I can drown him out and dust his hiney!

I never buy the whole kit. Just a pair of cutouts and then two pairs of header extensions with the rotatable flange and a pair of oval megaphones. That way I can cut them and put them where ever I want. Most people just leave the cutout with no end tip. It makes them sound different, harsh, less sweet.

If you don't run a megaphone type tip on the end of them they just don't sound as good. Imagine a horn section with no flared ends on their horns, in other words a picture a trumpet or trombone without a flared end etc. It just doesn't sound as good.

It makes a big difference, and it is a big crowd pleaser when you come loping into a show with them open, or maybe even punching it under an overpass.

Like in this example...

Now that's what its all about JBC426 I have done exactly the same thing. I love to be able to open them up and get on it then close them without getting out. I don't have the megaphones but I might try some. Are they really worth it??

All you have to do is hear the difference with and without them one time and you will always run them. Imagine the horn section of an orchestra without any flared ends on their instruments. The sound just doesn't bloom into the sweet tuned spectrum. Our ears can tell the difference. There's probably some acoustical engineer on this site that can explain it, but you can just hear the difference. It just sound less harsh, and way more bad ***!
