Long story short. Looked for awhile for a 73 Sport to recreate my old high school car. Found 1 solid 73 so I bought it. Soon after I found a good solid 74 so I bought it also. I have built the 74 to look like my old 73 from school. Made it look like a 73 with 73 bumpers. I will keep it because it has PS, PB and air. Pretty much through with it.
Now what to do with the 73 that is a 318 no PB, PS or air. Very good solid car with a good running engine in it.
I have a couple weeks off for the holidays and would like to do the body work and get at least the outside painted. But what color? I will be looking to sale this one so I am thinking of changing the factory color. Is a factory K6 Bronze Poly. Not the prettiest color. I like it but probably will be harder to sale. So I am thinking to paint it either E5 Ralley Red or B3 Blue Streak ( Petty Blue). It will have a black and white interior with a white over the roof stripe.
So What do y'all think? Keep it the factory color or change it? What ever color I chose it will have the black hood treatment and hood scoop with out the half roof.
Bronze Poly

Petty Blue

Rallye red.

I'll go with the petty blue seems like a more "sleeper" color but that's just me.. But you know what they say you can't go wrong with the re-sale red

-- I put more weight on condition than color...
-- Yep !! -- But - The Bronze Poly. --

-- I had this one, but it was a Hemi, and that made re-sale a cinch.

I would think the original color would be an easier sell than a car that had been repainted a different color!!

X2 on this. I think the orig. colour or close would be a better choice
-- I agree - these 2 colors were, at least, gray.. - Actually the lighter color was a mistake. I wanted the original / darker color and my friend, who painted the car goofed.

To me I would keep it the original color, just paint and clean up what you have for resale.

I'm thinking it's not worth a respray, just detail it and sell as-is. What sells is lots of pictures showing all areas and a video of it running/driving - let the buyer know what they're getting. One thing that might help is maybe a wheel/tire upgrade.

why paint it.
leave it brown.
put your time and money into the running gear, etc.

they don't call it resale red for nothing...:) ........ but i like the K6 Bronze Poly.

not sure i'd waste the time and money on painting the car. are you going to make your money back?

i'm always a little worried when seeing a freshly painted car for sale. it screams half assed respray just to sell.

I too like the K6 Bronze. They look great with wide body colored wheels and dog dish caps.

you paint it and you will hear :

the " whats under that new paint?

so why did you paint it?

I wan t the original color ( that bronze is pretty to me in new shiney paint).

I use X brand materials-- don't like what you used

I see a door ding you missed, NOW I will have to repaint the whole car!?

etc etc...

I say, if your goonna sell, it try a wet sand and buff? you might be surprised!

I like the bronze. Close to Cinnamon on mine.

Id say stay original regardless though. Lots of work to do a proper color change. Opening the hood to see a different color in the bay is a huge turn-off.

If I was looking at it to buy it I would be far more apt to buy if it was the original color.

if you do repaint it, I feel it needs a total color change...... everywhere! but like would again vote to leave it or go original color...

harleydodge1 I vote for as is.I feel for you, I hate selling, all the beat downers and low ballers. And the forever,,"I had one just like it but it was different"..................................
No matter what you decide,I wish you well.

Don't touch it. You'll never win this battle, and you'll never get enough increase in value to justify your time.

I've always wondered about the Starsky paint on a duster, and now I know. And now I need a duster.

I hear ya guys. It is a very solid car with just two places of rust. One on the A pillars and one spot on the pass. side drip rail. Really would rather sale the car now before paint but I have time off work now and can paint it over the holidays. Probably won't make anything on it but hopefully get my money back on the car as I go along. But I have the time and hate to waste it. Painting has to add value to the car. I know I will not get any labor out of it.
When I paint it I will do an all over paint job. Just have time now to do the outside and jambs. Will pull the motor later this winter and paint under the hood.
Looks like most would keep it the factory color and I would rather have the factory color if I was buying the car. I really think the Bronze with a white stripe and blacked out hood with a scoop would be bad ***.
I will probably have it in primer tomorrow as there is not much body work to do other than sand the whole car. I will cut out the little rust and replace it with new metal.
I know that there is no other rust on the car as it is mostly in original paint. The pans are all good as are the quarters. You don't find many this solid. That is why it took me a year to find these two. I know to start with a solid car. May cost more up front but worth it in the end.
The car did run and drive when I got it. I have used a few parts on my other build and am replacing them to get it to run again.
If anyone is interested in the car it is for sale for $3,500 now. It will need the interior redone but it is all there. It is a bench seat car. It will go up as I work on it. The car is in north Al. if your close and want to look at it.
I am taking lots of pics so someone can see what they are getting.
Here are a few pics as the car is now. The primer you see on it is all the body work this car needs. I have all ready repaired the few small dents in it.
What it looked like when I got it.

Now
