Turning back the clock

if he doesn't ...I do, then forward them to him for review / posting.

Gotta love it.....I guide my life by a couple of simple sayings....praying to baby Jesus is one I got from you. He answered my / our prayers Nov 8th. Drain the swamp.

Dropped the Flash off at Bouts and because Bout was out at the time I went over the plans with Terry, his head body guy....you know the drill, clean up, epoxy coat, and smooth anything (minor) that needs attention . Bro John stopped by later.....Bout had 6 pages of stuff. :)....rhut-row!

I prayed for 2 things, 1 came true (Trump) the other (HiLAIRy's uterus to fall out) hasn't happened yet.

Metalwork done, the California Flash B/MP '75 Duster is now in epoxy primer and finesse bodywork will ensue.

While Bout is finessing the body......I dug the Dana out and after a trip thru the quarter wash....dropped it off at Fogs (Mark) fab shop to get the coil over lower mounts removed....man that sucker is HEAVY.

in my spare time.....I need to get the front suspension components in the gunk tank and ready for full out mock up. Bout hopes to give the Flash back with the body work done but still in primer by the end of Feb. Should be settled into the new shop by then.....did the final sweep out in the old shop 2 days ago slightly ahead of schedule.

Denny's getting ready to open up the Dana after it's cleaned and have a look-see.
Nothing but dusty....looks like it's never been wet.

The rear actually has nice black paint under the 40 plus years of track dirt / dust......barely recognizable.

Whadda think??...powder coat it gloss or matt black to look authentic. ...hate to rattle can, but that is probably what was done originally.

Just a little bit of trivia......Brother John (OMM) and I started our Honda and Yamaha dealership in this very building in 1983. The area where the Flash is in was the service dept. Bout was painting cars on the other side of town in his business then called.....Trick Shop. The Nomad was there too.

Copy the way it was built in 75 as close as you can.

I promised myself to go the extra (1/4) mile to make it the way it was.......right down to leaving the cars original undercoating I see in the 1975 CarCraft photos in the trunk.

Instead of buying old school ladder bars, I will have a set fabricated to mirror the originals from the photos. A unique piece was added to the underside of the chassis mount of the bars....for both strength and safety, I imagine.

any way to get all the 40 plus years of track dirt / dust cleaned off and make it presentable?

I'm not interested in "presentable". Not looking to showcase any wear and tear. No value in old beat up paint.

I want accurate as-built day one brand new condition utilizing the original components wherever possible.

then clean it enough to get an accurate color shade match and whether it's gloss, flat, matte or some variation of the black finish and put it in the booth and paint it --- doesn't have to be a rattle can paint job.

No colors or finishes are being deliberately changed, in fact for the exterior paint scheme we have all of the the original paint codes used and even some paint samples.

You are correct regarding the rattle can paint job....WTF was I thinking?.....must be the fumes from the temporary LP heater in the new shop that put me on tilt

Getting ahead of things, but are you going to run hood pins as raced or without as per D/C catalogue? I'd love to see exactly where they put the hood pins on the as raced M/P car.

I am leaning toward the DC Catalog / Car Craft cover scheme ....I personally like the "California" lettering better than the later 76 version. However, it is not completely my call. I was told by those in the know that when the cover photos were taken there was no motor in the car and the paint had not fully dried.....in other words, it was just out of the paint booth. The photos I have for the article were taken later....after flogging.

I have a great CarCraft proof photo showing where the (2) pins were later installed. They are on the radiator support...about 1-1/2" to 2" inward from the very inside edge of where the inner fender bolts on to the support. It is a factory (non lightened) steel hood with the factory latch and safety catch still intact and functional. A Pro-Stock style snorkle hood scoop is bolted on. I do not see the value of the pins UNLESS NHRA required them for safety. The aluminum Feather Duster outer skins did not show up until 1976...a year later.

This is a great read. Thanks Denny/Brother John. I like the progress for sure!

Not bad huh?......considering I am not supposed to be working on it yet.

Painting the base /door trim in the rental today while the shop gets the ceiling blown with lo-itch fiberglass insulation.

....and the car's doing pretty good too considering that not long ago there
was nothing in the front except two frame rails and no firewall/front floor.
