just curious on what everyones take is. Ive read some things on the internet that suggest nickel and platinum coated tips on spark plugs actually conduct better than iridium.

All the plugs im seeing are copper core but just coated with nickel, platinum or iridium. So which is best? The iridiums should last longer than the nickels but is there really a difference in performance between the two?

I change plugs in my 340 every two years because its cheap and why not. Just was trying to figure it out.

Can you get straight copper plugs?

I think even the champions are nickel coated.
Im not particularly fond of champions anyway lol

Chapions are pretty much the only ones right? All ive seen is

motorcraft
Champion (no)
Autolite (hell no)
I particularly like ngk

Why are the copper plugs so cheap? Because of the material? Wont they wear out quicker?

Id buy champions before autolites

I will never buy E3 plugs lol

I always thought it was funny some people love AC plugs but hate Champion plugs. They where started by the same guy, Alfred champion.

Dude....you asked what conducts best. We answered you.

Copper conducts best. All the rest wear better, but conduct a little less. Autolite is a great plug. Keep in mind there are only like 3 spark plug factories in the world. Period. Chances are one of them you don't like is who makes a plug that you do. A spark plug is a spark plug. All it can do is spark. The more exotic metals are for durability ONLY and have ZERO affect on performance. Even your beloved NGK.

I run RN12YC Champions in all my LA small blocks. I think 404 is the box number

Copper. The newer plugs are made to last 100k miles. But do not address the heat problem. Copper dissipates the heat quicker and less prone to pre-ignition. Plus they are cheap to buy. Save your money. Autolight or Champions are my choice.

Hmmm i think you all have shed some light and have shown me the way. Against everything ive always said, i might have to try me a set of champions

Why are they so cheap? Because its just copper and no exotic metals? Ive always thought cheap cheap plugs were cheap plugs

In 1971 I tried "fire injectors" (in a 383 Road Runner) that were advertised by J.C.Whitney mail order to increase horsepower, fuel mileage, and even raise the idle speed because they burned more of the raw fuel. Liars.

It says the champion copper plus plugs are copper core with a nickel plated electrode

Same as the ngk v power

Yes, copper, PLUS Nickle. That's the plus. There are still plain old copper cores around.

Would you happen to know where to find them?

I thought pretty much the only thing available copper wise were copper core coated with either nickel, platinum or iridium

The RN12YC are listed as copper core nickel coated

Champs are the OE plug. I find them (& AC's) to be the best plug for my MoPar's. I do not like the Autolights. It seems to me the engine runs flat with them. Some guys love'em. I say use what works best for you, or your engine really.

The cost of the plug is inexpensive because the materials are not exotic or hard to find/make. Plug cost is the last factor you look at. You should ignore cost when it comes to ether performance and/or long life. Getting both in older cars doesn't really happen. And it's not the plugs fault!

Your local AP store will have the number.

if the closest thing to a copper plug you can get is a copper core nickel coated plug i may stick with ngk

Autolite..wouldn't run scampions if they were the only plug available..

I prefer Champions because that what got screwed into the heads at the factory.
Autolites are just too Ford-y.
I like Allis Chalmers, (AC), but I'm not buying plugs for a tractor or a GM car..
And I'm not Japanese, so that leaves Champion.
I used to go to a couple fine junkyards out in the corn, and along the way, in a farmer's field, at a fence line, was an old 1940s Champion spark plug sign, about 2'x 3', and as I would go by it, I always went deep into the throttle to hit passing gear and let my Champions say hi to the sign.....

Now this here is a flat out lie! If the only plug available was a Champion, trust me, you be putting them in your cars :D
P.S. - I've over the years tried them all for long life and performance. Champions give up nothing to nobody.

My grandfather always said Champions for Mopar, AC for GM, and Autolies for Ford. I have always run Champion plugs in all my Mopars, old and new.
