Hello all, just sharing a little video for fun. We've all heard how reliable Slant 6es are, and heres a little proof. My car sat for 10 years, and since getting it all I've done is new plugs, a seafoam clean, and a valve lash. The oil could use a change but isnt 10 years old. It has a 2 bbl carb with a manual choke. Otherwise, all original motor. Well, HERE is a video of my first try starting my 1964 Dart, in a month, on a day it was -20F. Just to prove how tough these engines are.

My daily driver is a 170/64 Dart. Starts, runs..does everything perfect day after day, year after year.
Tough? I have not changed the oil in 60,000 miles.
I've got a 225 waiting to bolt in, but that little 170 refuses to die

Those Slant 6s are truly robust little engines for what they are. Though they are not necessarily fast out of the factory, they are definitely torquey! It's sad to see that some people underrate these engines, but let the engine speak for itself. :)

I daily drive a slant six because I don't have a newer car. The slant starts everyday in any temp and is arguably as reliable as any new car out there.

electric fuel pump, bro. That baby would kick over in 2 turns. -20, I cant even imagine that cold...when do you die?

Drove my SL/6 70 Challenger as a d/d from 1973 to 2005 w/ 3 engines 562k miles on odo. Now it's retired from daily use, like me.

Makes me feel like I'm the only slant killer on this site.
I've tossed a rod on every slant I have ever owned.
Mopars flat head six's too. Always on the interstates.
Just when I'm thinking shes really runnin good, this is the most speed I ever got out of it, is when they let go.
I suppose you could say I was abusive pushing them to 70 mph+. I just wont follow those diesel trucks mile after mile.
They do start no matter how cold it gets here but they are not durable for everyone. The long stretches
of roads between towns out here are no match for them.

500k on a slant from a tlwrecked taxi went into my 71 Dart in high school. A quart of oil every other month, but the motor and the car were free. Sold it a year later to the dispatcher at the tax company. He and his daughter drove it for several years before I lost touch with them.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I've killed one myself. Not bragging and I was mostly upset when it happened. The money I set aside for paint and materials went into a complete rebuild so.......

Well, ssba, it may just be the way the previous owner broke them in. You take a car that the little old lady never took over 3000rpm, and wind it up on the freeway, you are likely to induce a problem. Which reminds me... I just dropped in a L.O.L. motor -- maybe I should treat it more gently.

My Dad and I enjoyed blowing out my Grandmas 250/6 Buick Apollo before we changed the oil. Funny stuff, punching it on the highway (Gramma never drove outside of her tiny town or over about 30 I believe~! ) and just seeing light blue smoke pour out the tailpipe as the motor coughed and cleared its throat. I dont think that car ever got warm, those 8 minute trips to Piggly Wiggly and church couldnt do it....

Sadly, you can sign me up in the Killer's Club too. I had a 73 Duster /6 a looooong time ago. Being young and stupid (essentially the same word, just spelled differently) I wasn't real diligent about fixing a coolant and then an oil leak. I ran it out of both probably 20 times or more before I burned it up for the last time. Just to show how tough they are, the first 19 times I had to pull over to let the red-hot smoking engine cool off, all I had to do was add more water/oil and drive it again until the next episode.
