Just want to know what you guys think of an 8" converter with 4800-5200 stall in a street strip car? Mostly street. 3.91's in rear 292 mopar cam 360 engine. Ok or too much? I have read some members here say they hardly noticed any difference other than better performance. Car is a dart sport 3360 ish lbs.

If it's cheap enough, why not. That's a bunch of flash!

What was it in before if it falshed that high?

Not sure it is a remanufactured piece. That is what the seller gives as stall range. According to the sale ad its an A-1 unit. So it won't be mushy? They want $575 plus shipping. Also open to offers. Just curious how it compares to a 9.5 dynamic 4200 stall?

I ran a 292/108 in my 367 at 11.3Scr with aluminum heads......and a clutch with 3.55s. I always thought the bottom was a little soft............But not thaaat soft.
I got rid of that cam pretty quick, cuz it wasn't right for my combo, and I wasn't willing to give up the 3.55s.
In my engine the power seemed to come on like a switch at close to 5000, and continued to 6500 real strong, still pulling at 7000. With my 2.66 low gear, that meant the power didn't start until 43mph, and finished at about 55, and decayed at 60.On paper that looked pretty good to me.In practice, the lack of lower rpm power, proved too much for me.
But as you might know, the problem wasn't so much the cam, as it was the lack of torque-multiplication, and the fact that the tires were directly linked to the crankshaft, so 30mph was 3500rpm.
Now you, on the otherhand, in first gear, will be running 3570 @30mph at zero-slip, so a stall like you are interested in, would be the Hot-Ticket to get past that soft zone. Still; in a mostly street car, 4800 to 5200 seems awfully high.
I think that cam power-peaked at about 5700 in my combo,(maybe a lil sooner) and that points to a 4200rpm torque peak.
I can tell you this; I used to hit the gas at 4000 in second gear,at about 47 mph,and she'd break the 295s loose. With your combo,47 would be 3310rpm at zero-slip,so a 4200 would probably get you similar results. To that end I'm liking the 4200.
But I don't run that combo anymore. My Barracuda is ~3450, plus driver.

My Dart with the 508 in a .060 340 uses a 8 in turbo action and 4.88s. About five major projects ahead of it at the moment before getting it back together. Hope to have it back on the street this summer.
I will have to put subframe connectors in it though. It was hooking so hard The Body Flex cracked the cowll and the windshield.

76 dart sport it's a way fun car on the street.

The 4200 converter I already have. The 8" converter I would need to buy! So I guess I'll stick to what I got. The 8" just seemed interesting but was not sure how it would do in a more street than strip ride! I just love all this car stuff!! Never bores me!!

My daily driver or family car is a Toyota Venza. While very reliable it is just not anywhere near as interesting or fun like the dart to drive!!:) My beater is also my 1st set of wheels ever! So many memories and adventures. Even though early in its life it only sported a 1 barrel lowly slant 6. Even so it was so exciting since it was my very 1st machine. Went off on topic but just wanted to put this out I guess.

u got pictures? put some street gears in that car like 4.56 or 4.88s. that will help your converter.
Altho 3.91 is my favorite street gear overall.

No pics but I guess I could come up with some. It isn't much to look at. Still needs body and paint. Has the rat rod patina. Still gets looks that way!! Also the sound of the engine always draws attention as I drive it!!

My last three converters have flashed from 4800-5400, no issues on the street. The car has ran 7.24 to 6.40 in the 1/8 depending on the combination. I like loose converters.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
--------THIS .------ It depends on what u got and can put up with. I have a loose 3500-3800-- behind my 505, w/ 3:73 gears, and it seems looser than 3800, kinda wish it was a little tighter for milage/heat , on the street.

I have a PTC 8" that flashes to 5200 with 4.10s and 295 65 r 15s drag radials. Its nice and tight ,like A J said it will destroy the tires on the street

As AJ noted that cam likes gear and some decent squeeze. IMO, your a bit heavy.
I absolutely think it's a complete Riot when somebody reduces AJ's long interpretation down to one or two sentences LOL I love it! LOL
Occasionally I feel bad for AJ because he types all that crap out...
Voice command AJ voice command oh wait a minute that would make it ten times worse no voice command AJ no voice command!...

I keep telling him to break it down and but she’ll it but he feels it best to completely inform the poster of every last detail and possible scenario. While informative, it just looks like a post that drones on and on. Oh wait, it is! LOL

Honestly I think he's trying to override the fact that were on the internet. And as if we were right there getting out every Last Detail like a phone call. Again this is why I like voice command cuz I can just say what I say look back try and correct some of the punctuation and make it sound halfway decent. I mean I could go on and on and on cuz this is voice command and I could explain every thought that I ever think being that voice command and I don't have to sit here and type everything out. But some people like to type everything out every thought they have and that way you're kind of circumventing the Internet by being able to communicate as if you're on the phone. If that makes any sense to anybody I could go on more because all I'm doing is just talking at my phone and not having to type everything out and put a lot of effort into it.

It will break up if you use the term "new paragraph".

It will break up big long boring say nothing drawing say nothing paragraphs.

Oh new paragraph.

 I actually like seeing AJ's posts, I like the enthusiasm that motivates Him, even when I see a 5 paragraph eye-glazer. I may have to say.."uhh, I ain't got time to
read all that", but I may go back and do it later anyway, lol......

4800-5400 does sound a little on the loose side.
I'll confess I'm no torque converter engineer, but I believe the smaller the converter is for a "like" stall the more efficient it is, i.e. You don't have to put the loud pedal down
as far to get it to move/cruise. Most folks don't make the jump to an 8" due to $$$, that's not a bad deal so it's up to You to try it, would really hit that cam in it's sweet
spot for sure.

4800-5400 does sound a little on the loose side.

Not if that is what your engine wants. Years ago I had an old B&M 3800 that was way looser than anything I've had in the last 15 years, even though they flashed a lot more. Just because a converter will flash 5000 doesn't mean it'll slip at anything below that rpm. Plus I never had any heat issues with any of the three converters mentioned above, use a good external cooler.
