ceramic coating header recommendation

I have a nos set of Clifford long tube headers for a 60-66 "A" body with a 170 slant six. They are probably the last set in existance. I want to get them coated , so they last a long time. Any recommendations?
 
Yes stay away from ceramic coating. Go with the black high heat thermal coating like they use on tractors. I have that on my TTI headers. Have heard a lot of guys complain about ceramic coated years later they fade and make the header brittle.
 
Any brands or where to get this high heat thermal coating as used on tractors. I thought about the ceramic coatings, but couldn't find anyone that did this anymore, plus shipping exhaust manifolds, or headers is very expensive. Let me know if you know.
 
We have a local powder coater here in my city, and he has it available for $75.00 Canadian. He blasted my new bare TTI headers, coated them then put them in the big oven. 22 dyno pulls and two years in the car and they look brand new still. I read that John deer has a similar coating process.
 
Is Jet Hot still around ? Don't hear about them much.
 
Does anyone remember Alumacoating? I had a set done in the 80's and there still holding up today but I don't hear about it anymore.

Your saying that it makes the metal Brittle?
 
In the US the main company advertising they do ceramic coatings for automotive and racing is Swain Tech. In the UK, the main company is Zircotech. It's applied using a hot flame or plazma. 'It' being some variation of zirconium dioxide, probbly with ytrium. Its an industrial process, so those companies are not the only ones that do it. They're just the only ones that promote it for stuff like this. The Zircotech website has info about the interface metal layer and the process.
 
Hey Charrlie use someone who has a lifetime warranty and get them done on the inside also .
 
I do want them done on the inside, also. Lifetime warranty means nothing if the company doesn't honor it. That's why I'm asking for recomendations.

jet hot in okc still does them I think .

JET HOT HAD SOME PROBLEMS A FEW YRS BACK, BUT THEY MADE GOOD ALL THAT SENT THEM BACK FOR A RECOAT---SO I`VE READ !
 
I want to know who "those guys" are who say ceramic coatings make the metal brittle. As one who has done high temp ceramic coatings (which were liquids applied over lightly media blasted metal and allowed to air dry), I fail to see the logic in this statement. Don't pass along rumors unless you have experienced it yourself.

JetHot has been bought and sold several times over the years.

Check out Performance Coatings in Georgia. They usually do nice work.
 
Thanks, Leanna. I will check out Performance coatings. I did talk to Jet-Hot in NC, and got a price, and they give a lifetime warr. They said there are a couple of minor maintaince procedures to keep them as new. Also I might save some money, (about $90) by dropping them of, on the way to a race in June.
 
I'm happy to help Charlie! Any time you can get what you want AND save money it's a great thing! (Outrageous shipping costs were to blame for me getting out of it and concentrating on my custom powder work instead.)
 
I quit selling parts bigger than a USPS box.And those prices keep going up. Thanks for the info young lady.
 
Forget about driving them when the roads are salted in the winter in your area.
It turns to crusty rust in one season.
Ask me how I know.

Agee w/ that. Jethot quoted me a price of $350 for one header, that plus shipping to and from OKC don`t sound too good to me.
If I ever take the darn things off, I think I`d buy some new dougs, or just re wrap them.
I sure would like to find some kind of industrial thick hi heat spray coating to put on them, w/o removeing them ! LOL
 
Jet hot in north carolina quoted me $300 for slant six long tubes, inside and out, with a lifetime warrenty. Since these headers are NOS, and haven't been made for many years, I think that's the way I will go. I can save shipping, by dropping them of on my way to a race in June. Only about an hour out of my way.
