HyRev 7500 ECU box

Mopar box retard timing? Are you talking Chrome box too. Explain? I run my car at full mechanic advance, once it set, my timing never moves thru the RPM range when racing.

Its probably a reference to 'slew rate' which in this context is the time for all the transitor switches to operate.

Paired with a DC/MP tach drive distributor you'ld never see it.

What else do you want explained?

Yes, and I do not know how to explain it any better. All but the gold box retards timing at high RPM. That hasn't a thing to do with "how hot" the spark is. The reason for it is so that timing will not advance too far resulting in detonation at high RPM. But, as I said in my earlier post, if you run race gas, or have a low enough compression, the retard feature is not needed.

Now that you have explain that, tell me how come I can put a timing light on my motor and run it to 7500 RPM with a chrome box and the timing never changes? My timing is set at full mechanical advance. You said it will retard timing, When will it, what RPM?
Mopar design the magnetic impulse ignition systems for less frequent tune ups, increase secondary voltage, improve starting, eliminate irregular timing and dwell change with engine speeds. Not retard timing.

How can you say time slips now? If the weather does not change, my car will run pretty close to the same numbers.

Ok. Don't take my word for it. I really couldn't care less. This is something that's been WELL documented since the late 70s. It's not a bad thing and can actually be useful. I was simply letting yall know that those boxes DO retard high RPM timing. Do with the info as you will. I don't care.

ok... Now you have to splain to me how a timeslip indicates ignition timing.

68Dodge. ... do you rev your motor to 7500 without a load?

I've already explained all I am going to. Like I said, this is information that's been known forty plus years.

I have alway understood the boxes to retard some timing ( exept gold box) . I just cant figure out how a timeslip shows it.... maybe I skimmed over that post? I will reread thread.

LOL... I was throwing humor at J par - see his quote I post above yours

I know... Just extending the humor....hehehe..

Although there was a 68 Coronet AHRA car here in the NW that ran a 318 w/ w2s and a solid roller that wound out to around 7800-8000 ! In fact I have the 904 from that car in my Barracuda. It was owned by Dennis Radford in the 80s.

I run the Hirev chrome box from Rich Ehrenberg(the guy from Mopar Action Magazine) -he has stuff on eBay it seems just fine to me but I am always looking for the next better new thing !

Ask him what the output is at 7500 RPM, we already know, we just tested the KV output from 1000 to 8500 RPM on our distributor machine.

The Mopar boxes all retard timing at high RPM, with the exception of the Gold Box. and those are a beeotch to find. That can be useful to prevent detonation, but if you're running race gas or you have a pump gas engine, that retard feature.......is retarded.

Standard Ignition #LX101 is a great piece that does not have the timing retard feature. They are all over Ebay at good prices. O'Reilly is also fixin to start carrying Standard ignition in all stores. The change over will be done by the end of the year. We are changing from BWD (Borg Warner Division) to Standard. We will even carry the once defunct Blue Streak line from what I understand.

Good luck!
Whats your opinion on the hi rev 7500 blue box? I'm running one.. tried to look up that thread about my dizzy timing... guess it got wiped.

I just put one on Vixen. Runs good.

Thanks Rob! Just finished an *** losing house, but started a 2nd story vinyl job. Ugh..but its for an elderly widow... really Alot of her wood needs RnR. T-1-11. Been replaced twice. Total garbage. I found an old dizzy I had w/ 2 light springs.. but the slots appear about the same as the dizzy w/ too much advance. I started to take it apart to actually measure the slots, thing has issues... I think I got it from my Friend ( that just got diagnosed w/ prostate cancer) he has a 71 340 4 spd Cuda. But he coulda bought it at Garlits as a spare. Do you think I should get Don's spring kit too? Or the book he has, so I can quit bothering Y'all?

No bother at all, but yes, I would get the whole kit.

Much Appreciated Rob! Hope You and Kitty are Well! Thank You Sir! I was reading an older post you had. Brought back memories. I bought a 392 (060 over,w/ Jhans 12.5 :1 slugs) in the 90s. Someone stole it... the 1st gens were cool.

We're ok. Thanks. Hope you and yours are too. Strange times we're living in.

Yes, I like the old Hemis. Hopefully I can start getting some more done on mine. I just have so much going on for one person. Kitty is a great help, but she just doesn't have the hand strength for a lot of things, so that kinda puts me behind some, but that's ok. I'm too big an asshole I guess for anybody to come help. Hell, I'll even feed um and by the beer but still, no.

I never got mine going.....If I was closer, I'd find the time and energy! I dig the description of the town yall r in. Were kinda wanting to finish the place we're at before we sell. People are moving here at an Insane Rate. I mean, it wacked! Aint none of em can drive either... Brother , we were going to work Thursday, right before an intersection, w/ a light, and a median, we and the vehicle next to us ( 2 lanes each way) we stopped traffic cause a Momma Mallard was crossing w 5 or 6 bables, I started to roll the Jeep over the median. Some *** in a junk ol.bowtie rolled right over em all.. we even went back to check, as there is an animal hospital bout a mile away ( I've took injured birds there more than once, that have a network of rehabbers) Just Pissed Me Slap Crazy off. Anyways, being able to help do Mopar stuff is an awesome thing! And I wish I could help ya... if you ever get to a point where you caint get any, I'd come up for a few day and get a room in town. Aint had a vacation in a While. And again, I always appreciate your help
