BORGESON steering box

It's a good upgrade! If you're running Dougs headers then you might (it all depends) have to ding the tube. If you want me to take a picture, I can.

I am running Doug’s headers, and I had to do a fair amount of massaging the tubes to make clearance with the stock box so I’m not afraid to do a little more.

Just a suggestion using a thicker motor mount helped the pipe that was laying hitting the steering pump with dougs headers. Got my mounts from napa. I don't remember the part number but schumacher & trans dapt mounts were both not tall enough to clear. I didn't have to dent my dougs

What suspension or K-Frame do you have there? Looks like either a Gerst suspension or QA1?

The Gerst would have a rack. Its a rack and pinion set up. Wouldn't have the box at all.

Anyone having an issue with the Borgeson box making a hissing or whooshing sound when at center? Sound goes away when turning. My setup is a magnum 360 with stock truck serpantine belt setup and pump. Also with 3deg. Pos caster I still feel the effort is too easy. Thinking of ordering shim kit. Hit my Dougs headers as well, can't raise motor, no room for air cleaner with edelbrock air gap.

only time I've ever heard something like that is if there is an air bubble or a line loose. Check all your lines for leaks. make sure the reservoir Then raise vehicle, support securely with jackstands away from the steering linkage but securely supporting vehicle, start vehicle, carefully remove power steering reservoir cap, turn the steering wheel lock to lock. have someone watch for small, tiny bubbles or if the fluid turns milky. keep turning back and forth until all bubbles are out of the fluid.

Please send me a picture of your box. There were a few in the past that have done this due to a casting flaw in the control head. The newest boxes have a different casting and I have not had this happen in some time now. Since light effort is not normal with these boxes,, I would like to know what it is to start with. However, it is possible too much relief pressure or too much flow is not helping the issue. These boxes like approx 1400 psi as opposed to the old boxes liking 700-1000 psi.

question: are these boxes specifically designed for the mopars or are they a version of a new model box modified for these applications?

I took the initiative to produce a bolt in product so you don't have to ruin your column along with custom hydraulic fittings for a direct bolt in product and I still get bashed.

Relax, ******...The world is full of cheerleaders and critics. I am on YOUR side, by the way.
The $200 coupler....To anyone that is used to a $35 factory coupler, yours seems steep at first. Keep in mind that most of us have no clue what your development costs are to create such a product. You are also keenly aware that many Mopar guys are CHEAP, right?
Also, I made a joke about the name...BAC. I find childish humor in almost everything. Take no offense. I respect your company and what you offer.
Finally, yeah, I called you a ******. Doesn't everyone WANT to be a ******? I like being a ******.

Well thisbthread just took an interesting turn...

Well , managed to get my old box out today, and the new box is bolted in. (more to do tomorrow).

The only thing that seems a little weird to me in the alignment of the shaft coming out the top of the box (to steering column)
Seems to be angled towards the drivers side of the car. Is this a problem? Haven't tried to reinstall the column yet.
You can see in the pic from the front you can see the angle compared to the torsion bar in the background.

On the off chance someone here has installed the Borgeson power steering box on an early LA 340 engine, what pump did you use? Turns out the Saginaw style pump and bracket from Borgeson are not compatible with my engine (68 Cuda, built in 67). Scrambling to figure something out That works without getting the original pump rebuilt.

I have a bracket for Saginaw pumps on early cast iron water pump 340s. I also have a super low profile fitting to clear the motor mount tower on sandwich mount (72 and earlier) k frames. PM me if interested.

Since the new boxes are narrower than the older ones, the angle is necessary. The coupler is designed to take up the angle.

I switched from the original Federal style to the new Saginaw style with these brackets.

Didn’t see he had the cast iron water pump.

I JUST picked up my car from the shop (68 Cuda 340) and the steering feels great, but I've got the same hissing issue as well. Sounds like it's coming right out of the steering column, but I can't hear it over the engine noise in the compartment when running. Were you able to figure out a solution?

Mine also has the hissing noise. The noise is annoying, but the performance is good. I also have the pump from Bergmans, so, I know it has enough pressure. Would adding a p/s cooler help? Would reducing pump pressure help?

A cooler may help if the noise is not as loud when cold.
Look at your boxes and see if the mounting brackets are welded on or cast as part of the housing. I am suspect the last generation welded on bracket style may be the culprit.

What does the new cast housings look like?

Can’t seem to find picture.
