A little Christmas day boredom going on looking at cam specs. I remember a lot of people liked their Voodoo series stuff. It looks like they dropped some of the SB Mopar stuff in the hydraulic roller from what I could tell. I know that some of the investors from Comp also own them now, just not sure how much influence they have. I do know that they show a separate headquarters. Also, I find it interesting that they headquarter in the same town as Bullet Cams, they are something like 10 ,minutes down the road. Anyway, mostly just curious then anything else as to what is going on with them.

Still relevant to me anyway. I don't remember the name, but the lead profile developer at Ultradyne/Bullet worked for Lunati. Their high efficiency small block solid grinds look very viable.

Are you referring the Harold Brookshire? I can't remember the timeline, but it seems that he had his own company (Ultradyne), it closed, then he sold his masters to Bullet. Then he went to Lunati and developed the Voodoo lobes for them. My understanding was that he had is own small cam company doing one off cams until he passed.

Correct! I have noticed that their catalog for small block Chrysler items has shrunk somewhat though. I haven’t looked to see what Brian Crower may have released lately or what he goes by on here. But he races some small block stuff and his custom grinds are very next level.

Yeah. They still carry Harold Brookshire (RIP) designed grinds. I'd call that very relevant.

Wow, I got a red X for asking a question? Oh well , the Grinch must of thought I was dishing Lunati or something?

No harm intended .

Are you talking about Brian Crower who does mostly late model stuff, or Shane from Crower who is a member here? I did go through some of their other offerings for other brands, and it looks like they dropped cam choices for them as well.

Hard to argue that. The Voodoo series was the last lobe that he designed for the mass market. I have read some of his later postings about things he was working on. I'm kind of sad that we will never know he was developing.

This is why I've argued about such small companies as Alliance Cams, General Kenetics, Ultradyne and although I don't think he ever worked directly for Comp, some of Comp's grinds are kinda "Haroldish". I think he was the one who figured out that a 110 LSA was the "sweet spot" for nearly every sort of engine you can imagine. Kinda funny everybody kinda picked up on it and ran with it about the same time his grinds were getting popular. I HAD an old General Kenetics catalog years ago that somehow met its demise, but it had all sorts of really up to date modern grinds in it because of him. He was cutting edge for sure.

If you call lunati and talk to Steve he worked with Harold for years at ultradyne, he is a wealth of knowledge and as RRR mentioned they have the ultradyne grinds. I think they are more relevant than they have been in a long time really.

Is Lunati Cams still relevant ?

In short I’d say yes indeed so they are still. What will make then not so is a new lobe that basically crushes the current one. I do not think that will happen anytime soon.

If you do a history search on Harold, you can also follow how he developed his lobes. Any cam you get from him will make very good power.

Shane @ Crower can show you around a few cams. Or take a trip yourself at Crower. They have a decent list of cams in a verity or styles and sizes. They will also custom cut you one.

I myself, when looking at a very high performance cam or a race cam, look for a high lift vs duration ratio and not so much on the popular 110 C line. Ether place will have something for you. This, I have high confidence in. As both places meet my criteria as described above.

I would imagine you can get any cam profile Lunatic has ground in the last 20 years....just ask.

Idk if their still relevant but im still running the lunati voodoo cam, was recommended to me by the engine builder. Had what he was looking for as far as specs.

Bullets website has their master list as well as ultrdynes, listed by lifter type and for flat tappers lifter diameter. Ken at oregon cams has a website but the list is maybe 10 or 20 years old, call him he will email you with his current list, there are many more on it

Lunati has at least two drag race cams using Ultradyne lobes(verified from an old UD list) A 278/278 (UD NF60 lobes) and a 282/282 (UD NF57 lobes) Same lobes show on Bullets UD list.
