Looking for someone who knows how to wire in 220v for my air compressor, to be honest never done it and nervous about wiring it myself.

I am TOTALLY not kidding when I say this. Either go to Lowes and buy a book or Google it. I googled it and I got hundreds of hits including videos. I wired a 240 volt sub panel in my garage and run my compressor, powder coating oven and garage heater from it. The heater and oven are operated from plug in receptacles that I wired from the sub panel. The compressor is hard wired and only has three wires going from the sub panel to the compressor (in a flexible plastic conduit, of course). I would not even ty to explain it to you when there are so many sources online with excellent pictures, wiring diagrams and videos available. Also, most 240 volt larger compressors are hard wired. No plug receptacle required. Also, if you do not feel comfortable, have it done. It will be money well spent.

I agree with Harrisonm on this. There are lots of information on the web. It is an easy job if you use the cautions and follow the electrical 'House Keeping' on running the wires. Only 1 hand in the electrical panel at a time, no exceptions. Hold both hands out to your sides and then think whats in the almost exact middle of your two hands. It goes Bump Bump.... Bump Bump

1. You have to know the amp draw.
2. You need to know the distance from the panel to the compressor.
With these two items of information you can then pick the wire gauge to run.

Now you also need a dedicated dual breaker of the correct amperage in the house/garage electrical panel.

Most codes call for like a 12-2 gauge or 10-2. In this wire you will use the insulated White and Black to the two HOT lugs on that dual breaker. The bare copper goes to the ground buss bar.

You are 8 hours away otherwise I'd ride over and hook you up for a beer and a good sandwich. ;)

look at max amperage on compressor name plate...buy a double pole breaker rated for that same amperage. look at the chart in "uglies" electrical reference (online) for maximum ampacities of conductors in free air. hook it up...piece of cake

Thanks for all the replys, I'll give it a go and get the right breaker, its not that high of a amp I think. Will look tonight

Sorry forgot to update, got it all done and fires up nicely, so glad to have air back. Thanks again for everyone's help
