DASH GAUGE BEZEL RESTORE

-
But they're restricted to one person in the shop and one up front so expect it will take a little longer than estimated. Hopefully everyone stays healthy and Frank is doing better.
Just spoke with Frank. He's doing fine. it was his son in law who was sick, but he's doing fine now too.
It may take a little longer due to the restrictions but they can continue with the restoration portion of the business.

Heard the same, spoke with Mark yesterday and said they are still working on my bezel and continue to work in the shop.

I wasn’t ready to spend $600 plus on one. I just did this the other day with a can of black and a can of Chrome from Home Depot just waiting on my wood grain applicant to show up. This will do for now came out pretty decent lots of taping and masking and repainting and taking lenses out Epoxying lenses back in it’s a lot of work on these rally dashes. Here are some before and after pics and I only got $20 in it. Not perfect but I can live with it for now

Looks pretty nice. Did you have trouble getting the chrome paint to dry?

How many coats of chrome spray did you apply ? Did you use any primer at all ? What chrome spray ? million dollar questions :D

I sprayed three coats of this chrome paint and I did not use any primer. I did not remove anything with stripper of the old paint. I just scrubbed and cleaned and used a Scotch-Brite pad and applied the chrome paint. This is what I bought at Home Depot.

I used the same stuff and it would still finger print if I touched it a week later. How Did you cure it? I just air dried.

I let it sit for quite awhile. The really trick is to not touch the area's you paint with it. It's an Art form!!! LMAO

So I'm still working on mine, but I'm having similar results so far. If you give it a few good coats of the chrome spray paint (same as pictured above) it will look really good for $3.96. Only negative is that you have to try not to rough it up. After a few days of drying, it seemed capable of handling a wet paper towel very lightly ran over it, and general finger touching.

Thanks for all the tips guys! The restores you all posted look amazing.

you guys are doing a great job! I'm really impressed with all the DIY outcomes. I need to do some lite restore on my dash chrome but just not ready to tackle it now.

Yours looks better than mine does currently, see below.

I'll give it a try with "chrome" paint and trim black paint.

Absolutely amazing...liquid chrome...air brush it on

Does anyone have any history on how long the chrome on the repops or the replated ones last? I have heard that the chrome only lasts about 5?years and starts dulling again. I would hate to pay a high price and have it not last.

In a perfect world, someone would develop a chrome spray paint that can be successfully top-coated with clear enamel spray.

Chrome paints come out silver ...they make a chrome paint from Germany call Molotow...its sold in marker refills or markers...get a 30ml refill bottle of the chrome molotow and airbrush it on....clearcoat will dull the mirror finish and finish is delicate until it cures in about 3months...cheaper than vacuum chrome plating...mirror finish is 8 out of 10
Exactly!
