Hey guys I'm looking for the best aluminum 4bbl option for a stock 360 with a 2.76 rear end. This will be street driven, mostly back-road 2 lane blacktop at 70mph. It's going on a heavy pig of a C body wagon, that at the moment doesn't have much get up and go. I'd like to find something that gives it a bit more power down low but doesn't sacrifice highway mileage
From what little I've gathered, it seems like an Edelbrock SP2P would be a good option, but I'd like to see what used stuff you guys might have available. Thanks!

IMHO, For your application I would think a stock 340 intake with a stock or edelbrock spreadbore carb is what your looking for, but you did say aluminum.....

what carb? square base or spreadbore? the sp2p was an idea that was not very good. maybe Edelb performer - flows 270 - same as a stock 340 intake. edelb ld340 is very good flowing 290. weiand action plus 8007 flows 260

Edelbrock Performer 318/360. 65'

I don't like the performer... Many better intakes than that one out there...

My son's valiant came with a performer on it... We swapped an LD4B on it and it ran much better...

I wonder if a different gear set wouldn't yield a much more desirable result?
something in the low 3.s

Swapping out that old lazy cam is going to be your biggest bang for the buck in a all stock 360.
Even with the OE 2 Bbl and intake.
Something like the old Comp 260 (212@.050 and 110° LC) would give you a much better foundation to build upon, so if you do make a manifold change, it will pay off in dividends.
The new split pattern Cams would be even better.

IMO, the LD-340 will not be good for this 318 & there way over priced. WAY OVER PRICED!
@BLIMP I do like the OE intake route or the LD4B.
The SP2P was brought out during the gas crunches and proved itself good for mileage gains. Available in a 2 or 4 barrel version. It did this with long narrow runners that made 90* turns. I do not think it will provide any meaningful power gains. Mileage yes, power, ehhh, not so much.

He wants to keep the gear ratio for mileage @ 70mph on the Hwy. Extra power from the engine is being sought.

Stealth, Eddy LD4B or Performer...all good ones! A stock 4bbl one is cheap and they make good power as well so don’t shy away from them...and if you get a 71 or newer one you can run a thermoquad carb and they work great. The Eddy LD340 is a great one too, one of the best ones ever made for the SB but hard to find one for less than $500 now....btw, cool car! I used to have a 73 Fury Wagon and I miss it

Changing cams can be a dicey situation for mileage concerns and even more so in that Land yacht he has.
Making a move to a 110 C line reduces vacuum needed in a LARGE (LMAO!) car. A 112 would be better for that if not a 114.

That old lead sled has a 8 3/4 rear I bet. Get a 3:55 gear for it and go have some fun. Then put on a 4 barrel if you think it needs it.

Bear in mind that the LD340 intake is taller than the stock 340 intake if hood clearance could be an issue.......
Another thought, do you have working AC in that big dog?, with the stock 340 intake everything should bolt back up the same

Blimp has a 360.

I used said cam in my tow vehicle. Best addition I ever made. Aside from the headers I added later.
It also passed the infamous CA. smog test. If the LC was too much, the sniffer would have caught it.
Mileage improved.

I pulled the 318 out of my old van years ago and built a nice 360 for it as I towed with it. Small cam, cleaned up heads, LD4B intake, 600 Holley, headers. That sucker ran and towed great.

Loving that van! It’s been too long since I’ve seen the pentastar opera windows in one...

@BLIMP IMO, the best things you can do for extra power BEFORE you open up the engine would be...

1: A 4 bbl. carb, your choice in maker and style, but 600 cfm will be very good on the square bore carbs.
(Edelbrock or Holley)
A Thermoquad is my fav OE offering. Small primary/large secondary good for mileage and power.
Top it with a OE 4bbl. air cleaner.

2: The intake could be the OE iron (should be cheap) or the Edelbrock offerings. A Performer would be best IMO.

3: Use a MSD or similar spark ignition and recurve your distributor. Open up that spark plug gap!

4: Dual exhaust off of the exhaust manifolds with a H or X pipe will help it breath easier and increase power and mileage.

It’s just a dicey thing. I read so SO many times about disappointments with cam swaps on heavy vehicles due to cams and there lack of vacuum for the PB set up.

I’m going with RF on the Thermoquad. You need a 72-74ish factory intake manifold, block the heat crossover off, because the TQ (like every other carb) hates all that heat under it, and find a nice TQ and learn everything you can about them and run it.

Love that wagon BTW. I don’t care who thinks what, but that thing puts ALL mini van junk **** boxes to shame.
