Tattoos

I spend most of my time in the New Testament and have never seen that verse! Thank you!

I'm not sure how I can "keep the law" of verse 27 though.

27 “‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

Remember when tattoos stood out on the beach? Now only the people with unmarked skin stand out.

My opinion only - not meant to offend anyone who has a tatt

Can't agree with this quote more...

Unmarked skin stands out

I believe tattoos defile one's body - my wife followed the tattoo "fad", defiled her body and in my opinion looks like everybody else who has a tattoo

Being an individual doesn't meaning following like a lemming and jumping off a cliff

Do folks get tattoos to be "cool"?

This is a rather extreme way to express ones "coolness" or "individuality"..

For me I'll stay the way God made me

I cant agree with THIS quote more. I love the way my wife looks in a bathing suit. Pretty nice for 61. To me all the pretty blonde girls who got tatted up like a biker momma dont realize that once they are on they dont come off. It's their body, their business. Just not for me.

Yes. This is why we see the orthodox Jews curl their locks. Looks kinda dumb, if you ask me but, it's the best case scenario for them.

That's what I was wondering. I used to see them walking to temple in Marietta, GA. Curls and long beards. I commend them!

I cant tell you where , but GOD said, do not put any permanent markings on your body , it`s in the bible.
That being said, all sin is sin , I have sinned in other ways , so-----------------.
I have never wanted one , and still dont .
And think some w/ a bunch covering all there arms , look like their trying to imitate a lizard, = quite ugly.
Why a pretty girl would want one is beyond me . Looks like anyone w/ one is craving attention ----------J M O

I guess I was wanting attention when I tried to egg a new mustang into a race yesterday , he followed me till I turned off , traffic was too heavy anyway !! LOL

It's in Proverbs. Not saying it "doesn't count" but I sure am glad we have the forgiveness of The New Testament. lol

Leviticus is the passage I was thinkin about......I think it says something in Proverbs too.....seems I remember it somehow.

Anyway all that said, back in my younger days there was "this girl" that most all the guys "knew" in the Biblical sense of course....rumor was she had a tatoo "down there" that said "Cum and get it". Me and my main runnin buddy at the time never found out.......and I'm glad we didn't. This was almost 40 years ago and "the girl" was older than we were. Can you imagine what "THAT" must look like now?!?!

Thanks for the replies

Those who mentioned the Bible don't really surprise me because that's pretty much how i was raised and the opinion of most around me. Most of my immediate family tend to believe tattoos are more of a Male thing.

I'm going to give it a LOT more thought. Thanks for the input

Think about it a lot and pick a very good artist. Ask around and go to the shop to see their work. My suggestion would be to pick what you think you may like, and keep it with you at your desk at work or at home in the shop and look at it often. Maybe you like it as is, or a slight change here or there...In my opinion, it is self expression. If you like it, are proud of it, it makes you happy, or means something to you, why do other's opinions matter? Just be sure it is a subject matter that can stand the test of time; skin gets thin, wrinkles, scars, etc. They say you only live once, but I saw a quote the other day that makes more sense: "You only die once, You live every day" Do what makes you happy. As for skanky, I agree with most that has been said, it doesn't take tattoos to do that nor do they cause that by themselves.

Why thank you Rob.

I always find it absolutely hilarious when Christians start pulling stuff out of the old testament to try to shame people into their way of living. Except, they happily ignore all kinds of other stuff in the old testament and just pull out the social stuff THEY believe. And really, if they knew their stuff, they'd know that a big part of the reason why Jesus came around was about changing some of those things. To introduce the new covenant in place of the mosaic covenant.

Otherwise, you'd all have to abide by the prohibition against mixing fabrics (Leviticus 19:19) or eating shellfish (Leviticus 11:10-12) and pork (Leviticus 11:7-8). Or any number of other things that modern Christians completely ignore.

We could get into loving thy neighbor, treating the foreigner as you treat the native born (Leviticus 19:33,34), or placing judgement on others (Matthew 7: 1-2), but then we'd be right off to N&P.

Bottom line is, do what YOU want, and not what a bunch of old men want you to do. Because they already did all the stuff they wanted to, happily ignoring all the rules they're trying to apply to you now. Hypocrites, every single one of them.

One word comes to mind when considering a tattoo.....

HENNA

Have your design done in henna first to see if it's something you can live with. If not, the henna will go away in a couple of weeks....

I have no real opinion on tatoos. Not for me. But makes no difference if someone chooses to get one or twenty.
Al i can say is do your research and be certain the artist doing the work is true to his/her work.

a friend had a tatoo done,it was a mess,in so many ways its hard to explain.
He found someone nearby ,advertised on the web. Pictures of work that i percieve were not his. Total scam artist, folowed with infection to deal with afterwards.

Raini,
One more thing to add, is be careful, they are addicting. Not many people end up with just one!

Actually there's places now that can do custom temporary tattoos for you, you can find them on Etsy etc. They're kinda like the "lick 'em and stick 'em" tattoo's that used to come in cereal boxes or cracker jack boxes. Except much higher quality now. You could send off an image of what you wanted and you'd get exactly that. Then you could wear it for a week or so and decide if you wanted to get the real thing. Most price them by the sheet, so, you actually get a bunch. So you could try out different placements, or keep it there for quite a while with replacements.

Yes. Tattoo's are both an artistic endeavor AND a medical procedure. Remember the medical procedure part, and make sure you choose your artist and shop with that in mind. A surgical instrument is entering your skin thousands or even millions of times, you want to use a professional shop. Like anything, not all shops are professional. You do your homework before you take your car to a mechanic, picking a tattoo shop is even more important.

Also very true! Most people keep going after their first!

I guess I have no opinion after reading the replies. I almost got one in my 20's I'm know pushing 51. I have know regrets. I think a small classy one on a female looks sexy though.

I have four tattoos, and I'd like to get more. All are concealable and in good taste if exposed. And they are all Mopar related, so they can't be that bad...

Like others have said, just make sure it's something you feel passionate about (and will still for the rest of your life) and make sure you do your homework to find a good artist.

I don't think a tattoo makes anyone skanky or not. It's just personal preferance. But having a badly done one would really suck. There are web pages out there that just show tattoo fails; you should check them out as some a pretty horrific. Again pick your artist wisely; think of it like you wouldn't just let anyone paint your car.

Not my thing for me, but I don't judge others. My Dad had a few from his days in the military. I have some nieces and nephews that have full sleeves and neck tattoos. One of them is now in her late thirties and going through the painful and expensive process of getting some removed. My daughter has the planets on her forearm which look good and are her passion as she is an astrophysicist.

The slant 6 would be cool, but you'd probably need a stellar artist to get that right. If a man got a slant six on his inner thigh that would be an hysterical double entendre!

Riiiiight, you think you "got me". But it's not a judgement, just a fact.

If you claim to follow the bible, then passing judgement on someone with a tattoo is just as bad as having one. Worse arguably, given the old testament vs new testament issue already discussed. In passing judgement on the person with the tattoo they have violated the same set of rules they claim to be upholding. That makes them a hypocrite as a matter of fact, not opinion.

And besides, I make no such claim as to follow those rules anyway.

Ok, so I was not raised around anyone with tattoos and ive never had the desire for one when I was younger.

I always thought it might be skanky and not look right.

Awhile back my friend got a tattoo with her kid's names and she asked me if I would ever get a tattoo. At first I said "absolutely not"!!! Then she asked me "isn't there anything you are really passionate about"

Then I started thinking about it and a few things came to mind.

Do you guys think tattoos are nice additions, or would you say it is a horrible, skanky idea??

Horrible.

A tattoo is a marker for a mindset of risk taking. It also indicates low levels of impulse control.

Both of which are things that women have been evolutionarily programmed to look for in a provider and protector.

In a woman, these are negative traits because;

  • To safely raise children, who are death magnets, the caregiver must have fear of risks to protect children.
  • Impulse control means concern for the children over concern for self in a dangerous environment.
  • Tattoos on women also indicate poor sexual selectivity skills because of the above mentioned poor impulse control.
Tattoos on women mean NOT WIFE MATERIAL!
Tattoos mean easy lay, pump and dump.

Quality men do not look at tattooed woman for a spouse. Consider what kind of man you would like in your life.

Women mistake what they find appealing with what men find appealing.

Look up Paul Elam, Terrance Popp, and Think Before You Sleep on YouTube, and search their channels for tattoos.

Don't disfigure your body. Learn from other peoples' mistakes in life. Why would you **** up your complexion?

Naomi, your value lies in your soul, your heart. It does not come from pleasing others who want you to make your body ugly.

Wow, that is an aggressive reply to a sweet girl asking opinions of tattoos. Artistic expression, remembrance, honoring, etc. I don't want to start anything here, but I don't believe you can throw all men into a category as not looking at a woman with a tattoo as non spouse. Also, consider the OP. She is a very talented, knowledgeable car girl, with a good job and lots of cars. So what if she wants a tattoo if it makes her happy?

Why so triggered ? when you go 'plank-eye' on someone, you reveal your flesh.

sorry sis, tattoos are trashy
and girls with tattoos look trashy
in fact, it is right up there with smoking

(and yes, i have one too)
