The exhaust on my car is rubbing my driveshaft pretty good. It was installed in the car before I purchased the car. The car started life as a v6 car. The exhaust is welded together. That makes adjusting it harder than it should be. I am debating just buying a new exhaust system or modifying the current exhaust. The first question if do I have the right exhaust hangers? I was thinking of trying to find another one and drilling out another hole. About an inch to the inside should do it. If they are welded on then I will have to come up with another plan.

Yep. too close. What brand of exhaust?

Take it to your local muffler shop, they can get you the clearance you need. There is no need to replace it if you like the muffler tone.

Hanger not stock at least for a 67 Dart.

What car is the system on?

There is a special place in hell for someone who would install a system like that

Nice that it's welded but too bad also. You couldunbolt the hanger and see if you could gain some needed clearance without messing up your tailpipes. You might need to modify that hanger or use a different one that would work for you. I like clamp style hangers and not the bars welded to the mufflers. That's where they start rusting at.

That is a terrible install. The mufflers should run parallel with the driveshaft. I agree, take it to a muffler shop and have them fix it.

Your missing the correct right side dual exhaust bracket. Your car never came with duals The first thing you need to do is get the correct parts. If your car was here its an easy fix. Danielsville Pa.

Can somebody post a picture of the stock style dual exhuast hangers and how they are installed on the car? I just can't imaginne how they are supposed to sit on the car. Also would anybody with knowledge of the TTI universal hangers recommend them as a viable solution? I unbolted the pipe and attempted to adjust it at the collector. I had an inch of clearance until I got on it and the pipe swung right back down into the driveshaft. Caused a violent vibration and the car started pulling to the left. I thought I had broke something in the front end. Got it up on the quick jack and the only thing that moved was the pipe. I have to get this sorted before I go hunting for more problems.

Look underneath on the left side.
No matter what plain jane engine your car started life with, it came with the left exhaust bracket welded to the floor pan.
The part that comes straight out with a hole in it is for the brakes.

On a dual exhaust car a second bracket was bolted on the right side.
We can see in your first photo that your car doesn't have one.

Whether that will help you is hard to say from this side of the screen, but when you're under there you may be able to judge the relative positions.

TTI's hangs their muffler brackets from the seat belt anchors. That's looks like where your car's right exhaust hanger is welded.
I don't think that will help you. I agree with Demonracer. With the system welded, it needs to be cut, repositioned and then rewelded or clamped.
As far as hanging goes, there are many hangers that can be made to work. I do like the factory style but no reason to limit yourself if they aren't going to work out.

Notice the factory muffler inlets are offset. That helps keep them away from the driveshaft. Sometimes (always?) that inside corner was dimpled or flattened for more clearance. Shouldn't need to do that with a shorter muffler and/or custom run pipes.

I do appreciate it. This helps clarify things for me. I will take the car to an exhaust shop in the morning. See if they can get stuff adjusted. I may also go buy the original hanger brakets just in case I have a change of heart with my current setup. The current hanger isn't enough to hold the exhaust in place. Its sliding in the rubber you see in my picture. Thats is allowing the muffler to hit the exhuast. The best bet maybe be to weld that bracket an inch and half to 2 inches to the left. The only other option I can see is bending the exhaust pipe right after collector which should change the geometry.

I don't have a lot of photos for this stuff but here's a few. '67 Barracuda so there may be a few minor differences.
red arrow imdicates seat belt bolt. Blue arrow points to the right side bracket that is bolted on. I can't recall where I bought it. Probably Direct Connection through Koller Dodge, but could have been Year One, or ??? Anyway the point is that it was available at one time but not quite the same as one linked earlier in this thread.

The hanger is NOT factory.

Here's the driver's side. You can see the brake line attached to the bracket.

I've had factory hangers on the car but no digital pics that I can find at the moment.

So those 3 holes for the dual exhaust bracket are drilled in on the passenger side? Right above the seat belt bolt. I need to drill those if I go with the factory hangers.

I think in your car's case, much of the problem is the entry end. That why I think it has to be cut and reattached.

I agree about that style of hanger slipping out. Don't like that. I was planning on changing the tailpipes and the hangers this winter. Didn't happen but it will. '67 cars are little more complicated. But with any prebent tailpipe, the muffler outlet positioned and angles must be very close to match up well.

Yes. My recollection is the dimples indicating where to drill are stamped in the body.

If you go to Accurate Exhaust's website there may be photos of the hangers which are similar to factory. or search here for photos of Accurate exhausts.
Same for TTI exhaust and their hangers.

I had to sit here and stare at the pictures to understand what you where talking about, but now I see it. If they can correct/straighten out that bend right before the muffler inlet that might be enough to change the geometry altogether. An inch or 2 towards passenger side may allow that muffler thats rubbing to clear the driveshaft. Thanks I do appreciate your patience and insight.

2 trips and it still isn't done yet. We have tried several different things including cutting the hanger and adding an extension. The muffler just keeps sliding over and dragging. Tomorrow they will have to cut the exhaust pipe and straighten it out some. Its the only option left. I will have to get new headers in the near future. They hit the ground on the drivers side so much that the metal is flattened and it is getting thin. Old Hooker competition headers are on there now. I will probably go with a full TTI setup when its time.
