Vintage Plymouth Indy engine

They F'd TWO (!) motors up during a STP oil shoot! The oil was supposed to be preheated to 200F before the motor was started and they filled it cold on camera and then started the motor, I think its oil pump failed or something. There was full article somewhere posted about it. Comic tragedy. Ill have to find it

Gurney had nothing to do with it… My dad had everything to do with it and 10 were built. My dad was working with Pete Hutchison with Chrysler who was the factory rep out in South Gate with my dad at KB’s while they were developing that engine for the Stock block program that Art Pollard was slated to drive. The car didn’t qualify because Andy put some cold STP into the dry sump tank during a STP shoot and the glop blocked off the oil flow and burned the engine up …. They swapped out a second engine (using same oil cooler) and it failed again and they pulled the car from competition… My dad flew back to INDY to see what the hell was going. He cut open the oil cooler and it was loaded with engine debris from the first engine. Anyway, it turned out to be a bad scene although one of the engines I believe won the Michigan 200 in a Gaerhart STP Indy car…"..Bob Sykes Jr.

Look at the distributor in it. That's a factory Mopar electronic unit. All you fellas always arguing about ignition systems take note.

Doubt that was the original dizzy since it has a MP part number tag . The PN would not have been assigned yet.

Yeah I remember that. Did it ever get running? I used the non turbo pistons since I wanted some semblance of compression.

I know right? The head's still at the sheen shop gettin cut for bigger valves, then I gotta take it to the porter.

Original was a Spaulding unit.

It’s missing and they just put that in there.

That electronic ignition in the motor now did not exist in 1969.

You're using stock 225 rods?
I used the longer rod, its 9.2 iirr

Head flows about 195/140cfm 1.70/1.44 off the top of my head. It's written down somewhere.

No. The 198 rod is 7.005. That's the rod I'm using. And no, nothing seems to get finished, although I am going to work on that. lol
 
I will be watching to see what it goes for.
There are extra parts and a set of Weber carbs also.
Bad *** stuff there.

As far as that Auction motor I think I have a Colt in the garage that could go into one day...
