Stop in for a cup of coffee

Mowed his yard when I was 12 to 15 years you, his wife always made me a giant cold cut sandwich. Talking to Don in his trailer at Memphis motor speedway in 2010 I believe, my friend chit there pants when he ask me to go around the fence and come to his trailer , they have heard me talk about him but now they all believe I was not bullshitting them, humble fellow for sure
Another great story Mike.

You guys that have been in the service have some interesting stories for sure. Thanks all for your service. The draft stopped just around the time I turned 18 so I didn't go. I almost enlisted in the Navy. My stepdad was in for 6 years and the reserves after. He had some great stories to tell too. The late 50's were pretty uneventful though.

kind of like most of the 90s. a few flashes here or there, but nothing like the op tempo since 9/11

Cold war era, hit the end of that. Really got crazy shortly after that. Guard and Reserves got hammered right after 911.

Dad was in Japan and the Philippines for his first hitch. He crossed the equator a couple times. He came back home after his 4 years and decided to go back for another 2. His choice of where to be stationed so he chose Honolulu. By the stories he told, he had fun there. I regret not taking him back for a visit.

For me, I decided at 745 am EST, on 9/11/2001, that I was joining the military. Problem I had was deciding which branch. I talked to all but the Coast Guard. Only one that would take me at 17 was the National Guard and they were offering me free college and a 2k bonus. I was leaning Navy and Active duty Air force, but the navy had retired its battleships, which is what I wanted to serve on, the Air Force couldn't/wouldn't let me pick what I wanted to do. The Marines the same way. So I went Guard. I don't regret the choice so much as I regret not switching branches after my first 6 years to Air Force or even going Air force to begin with. I think I would have enjoyed it better. The shooting and blowing stuff up fun I had originally in the Guard wore off quickly and it was no longer fun.

It's Track Layer Tuesday!

So OMR, Wolfie, is riding to El Paso with me to deliver a car to his son. Well, I get a message from him, His twin brother might ride as well.........Think about that for a minute.......

The NWS peoples must have stopped by the local canibus shop for a breakfast brownie before work :realcrazy:
They colored us in for an "Excessive Heat Warning" at a blistering high of 72°
