I grew up in Marshall, Texas in the early 50's. Barksdale AFB is only about 40 miles away. We would see them cruising back and forth, especially on cool days when vapor trails were prominent. I don't know what kind of supersonic planes were flying out of there at the time, but I was definitely around when we first started hearing the Boom-Boom of supersonics. It was the strangest thing; we had never heard anything like that.

I`ve been in one too , not flying.
Ever sit at the end of the runway during an ORI inspection , and watch parts fall off of them as they leave about 150 ft overhead ?
