I live in Alberta Canada. I have been collecting, restoring and driving muscle cars since I was 17, my very first being a 1970 Road Runner.

I used the Auto Trader to sell my cars (until that died out) and then I moved over to Kijiji. This summer I decided to sell one of my A Bodies. I have two, sell one keep the other so I listed them on Kijiji. I have never had a problem selling cars, usually 2-4 weeks, first guy to show would buy. This year was different, it was insane, I was spending 1-6 hours a day responding to "buyers" on the phone, email and in person. Every deal fell apart and I met every nut on the planet. I finally took the adds down to prevent further ptsd!

In hindsight I could have wrote the adds better but I think the main issue was covid, too many folks at home with nothing to do and a lot of drugs and alcohol in the mix. Also there was a perception that it was a fire sale because of the timing. I had many "buyers" say that they were low balling because of covid.

I contacted "bring your trailer" and submitted one car (the other is too modified). It was accepted but the reserve they want is approx 15k cdn less then market value, too risky. I also looked at their past sales for mopars and most never met reserve or sold for cheap. On the other hand their imports and exotics sell for insane numbers, so I see the appeal!

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions that can help me, keep in mind that I am in Canada and if I was in the US it would be a lot easier, you have places like "Gateway Classic Cars". I have zero experience with ebay but I thought that may be something I could do!

Or alternatively should I just shut it down for the year and try again next ? What has your experience been selling this year ?

Right here on FABO. Start a sale ad, pay attention to the rules and hold on. The ads are free too. Lot's of Canadian members here as well.

facebook market place is a great place. but you will have to deal with the idiots there also but there are buyers on it.. can post it on all the different mopar forums but there are idiots there that when they are selling everything is worth top dollar and when they are buying the stuff is worth nothing..lol.. just the way it is.. have to deal with the idiots and hope one come with cash at your price.

biggest thing is a good ad with a ton of quality pictures and honest detailed description.

people are spending money for sure so if priced right it should move...

Seriously, if it’s a good car with a fair price it will sell on here and maybe to the overseas crowd. Ppl pay up for a decent car. Kim

Either here or Facebook market place, Craigslist is a good place too.

I sold my Harley on FB marketplace. Wow, the response was overwhelming, but 99.2% goofy wacko's!! I had in the description "No Trades". Every other response was "i have a '01 cavalier"..... interested in a boat?...... etc etc. The other portion was "would you take ______" (which was about 35% less than I was asking) without ever seeing the bike or asking one question. But, within a few days, somebody came and looked at it and gave the cash.

I have had terrible luck selling on marketplace I have had some good experiences and sold and bought quite a bit of stuff but I have came across so many psychos and assholes its ridiculous. I finally got rid that old lumina yesterday thru marketplace tho. I had a lot of people message me about it but noone actually ever bought it. I had one guy I told and made clear that it wouldnt run and drive and he would have to have a trailer. He told me he was on his way when he got here guess what no trailer. He said oh we can fix it and get it running. I said no "WE" won't. We had agreed on 150 bucks I'm not spending all day fixing a car to see sale it for 150 bucks if I wanted to fix it I'd fix it and drive it. I asked him to leave! He got a little mad but oh well I made it clear he need to bring a trailer.

I think the convenience of marketplace being on everyone's phone (but not my flip phone... LOL) makes it easy for people to quickly send a message. I think most know 10 seconds after they respond that they are not serious. I had a guy get rude because I wouldn't hold the Harley for a week off his word that "he'd buy it". LOL. I told him I get those commitments non-stop. It's sold when somebody puts cash in my hand. I'll hold it if you get a hold of me and say you are leaving and will arrive at XX:XX time. It's not on hold till the day you leave and message me you are leaving. Don't want anyone to waste 2 hrs on the road and have it be sold when they get here.

I had a funny experience being on the buyer's end with an asshole seller. I found a 01 ram with a 360 I was planning on buying if it was solid enough he only had one picture and it was of the grille and hood straight on you couldn't see the doors or fenders at all. I know where these trucks rust and I thought it was odd that he didnt show a picture of the side. The truck was about 2 hours away so I sent him a message and asked if the truck had any body rust. He simply answered NO.
Ok so I asked for additional photos he said no. I said ok have a nice day. Then he messaged me back and said I dont have time for tire kickers if you want to see it come look for yourself. I replied ok thanks have a nice day. Then he replied stop wasting my time if your not gonna come look at it.... lol omg dude who's wasting your time? So I replied I apologize for wasting your time good luck with the sale. Then this guy replied with a 14 paragraph essay about how I'm the biggest asshole in the world for wasting his time and why I bothered him if I didnt plan on looking at it and I replied I had every intention of buying the truck but you are 2 hours away and I'm not gonna drive two hours to look at a truck based on the condition of the hood. You said you didnt have time to take pictures and I understand that because I dont have the time to drive 2 hours to see a unseen truck. So like I said before have a nice day. Then he replied another 24 paragraphs cussing me really good. And I replied with the time it took you to write that novel cussing me out you could have took a couple pictures and sold the truck... haha. Then he blocked me lol

LOL.... sounds about right for marketplace :D after I sold the Harley, I sold two pedal bikes and the 1st person to contact me came and bought them, so at least that went smoothly

It's a bit screwed up now because the US is closed off from Canada, probably till next summer at least. I live very close to Ontario and Kiji has a couple cars I'd like to see, but I can't get over the bridge. If you can sell it by just pictures posted I'd do ebay, I've had luck with them.

You also get rare mopar experts messaging you to advise that 73 to 76 A bodys are worth nothing and you are asking way to much for you said A body. Case in point: 73 duster with fresh motor, extensive head work, restored interior, new paint....etc etc was only worth 7k tops! I was told no one wants 73 and up a bodys

I wouldn't go that far. There's nothing wrong with the 73 and up A bodies. No they don't have the value of a 67-69 cars. 70-72 were transition years and 73-76 were the full blown "crash bumper" machines of the time. These cars are more plentiful than the earlier cars and of course are cheaper to buy (not build) but they are the nxt upcoming to be popular. We are running out of models and years here. My second car was a 69 383 Roadrunner that I bought in 1972 for a thousand dollars. It wasn't worth much back then. catch my drift?

I have 3 dusters. I’ve heard it all b4. Why do the even want them then if their worth nothing. I even had an appraiser tell me my factory original 41 thousand mile car With all its original sheet metal is worth no more than 1 that has had every part changed on it with a 100,000 miles. Kim

I can't comment on FaceBook I don't do it. I've been a Member here since '09 I've Sold a bunch of parts, but have had horrible luck at selling car's on here. It still works best for me Ebay. You still get flakes like everywhere else. Just have to weed through them.

I'm with you. I have a 73, but put up with alot of nonsense with keyboard commandos telling me what they think my car is worth without me asking. I pulled the ad to avoid the insults on FB

I bought my dirt late model chassis thru a Facebook racing page and also many of the chassis and engine parts with only one issue and it finally got resolved.

And I've sold a couple thousand dollars worth of parts and tools on there, too. It's been good for me.

I usually pay thru PayPal (not F&F). Getting my Crower rods tomorrow from an ad on FB. Shipper is in PA I'm in WI.

Found my blown up small block race motor on Craigs List.

Car show. you should see the junk that is flying off the lot at spring/fall fling here in So. cal. Put a fair price on it with your cell number and enjoy the show. Don't forget the "If you have the $4000 asking price for this car, text me with the word '$4000' and Ill respond" I put that in my craigslist ads and you'd be amazed how many 'people' CANT FOLLOW THIS SIMPLE FILTER! Most Craigslist responses are bots or people harvesting cell numbers.

...and that's why I use ONLY the encrypted craigslist email feature.

No phone numbers, ever.
