I'm getting to the point of installing the driveshaft finally, and was wondering if they painted the shafts in 73? I'm not building a show car by any means. Just want everything clean and as close to factory when I can.
Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but if you want a bare (or raw) metal look, Eastwood has several rattle can paint colors that look REALLY good. So you get the look of bare metal with no rust. I do a lot of powder coating, but I really like these paints. Take a look.

I've never seen one with any trace amount of paint on them. They're always pretty dang rusty.

Rusty in OK ? I don't recall them being all that Rusty in MN. That's why I assumed try hey we're painted .

It strikes me as a no-brainer to protect and paint it... "By no means a show car"..
Even if it was a show car you would have to be taking it to the concours laying mirrors on the ground and all that stuff for anybody to really give a hoot...

Did you see that Mopar Bob it had paint on the drive shaft!....
That's going to cost him the trophy....

If it's rusty no paint, if it is not rusty it is / was painted.

I dont think they were painted. Some vehicles built nowadays are also bare steel (rust). Not sure why they choose not to paint the drive shaft.

Mine has faded lettering on it, not sure what it is exactly.
You could paint, 'install this driveshaft' on it for extra points.

Never saw any painted back in the day coming off of the car carrier when I worked at the car dealership

This /\

Started out as a new car prep in my automotive career, never seen one painted... they were bare with a slight oily feel to them.....

they were left bare.
use RPM (rust preventative magic) from ECS for all your bare metal components
unless it will see salt, snow and weather regularly

Raw!!!!!! Part numbers stamped and a paint dob.

I never said to do that, but you can if you want, your call, not what I would do, but to each there own....
lmao, it's a f---in joke! Who could even imagine doing that for real? Never implied you said that. That's what some of these "patina" guys do to old trucks.

I like those. A buddy builds those for a living. He has sent trucks as far as Australia and has won many Sema awards.
