7.10 X 15 Tire ?s

What exactly does the 7.10 mean? My buddy has the above mentioned tires on the front of his '63 Dodge 440. As far as I can remember, the tire sizes were something like F70-14 or G78-15 (in the '70s).

Numerical sizes ended in the mid/late 60's.6.95,7.10,8.20 etc.
Then the letter sizes A thru L till the radial tires brought on the metric sizes and back to numbers 225/75/15 and the like.
The early number sizes can be bought thru companies like Coker Tire.
 
7.10 is the section width in inches and it fits a 15" wheel. Probably "somewhere" around 27" tall.

And latter on they remove the decimal point from 7.10 and flipped it over to become Chevy OIL caps! I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself.
