What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Been watching a couple drips under the car and decided to pull the motor and trans for a total reseal and repaint. Going to install a disc brake set up and steering components while the engine is out. Also have a few wiring issues to correct. It's winter and time to get her ready for cruising. Nice not to be under a deadline and have to hurry.

This is the before picture and I'm not crazy about the blue engine color. I guess to be correct a 68 should be red ? Might end up orange ? The ugly Mopar Performance valve covers have to go as well. I've always hated the made in Taiwan junk Mopar Performance makes. Anyone want to trade stock 68 valve covers for them???

Yet another great-looking car!

It was not fun but I got the trans back in the car tonight. Now i just have all the little stuff left like clutch linkage and adjusting the clutch, starter, exhaust, driveshaft, shifter and cross member. To bad no one is going to see all the work I am doing. I looks great.
My car came apart a lot easier than it is going back together. Last night I got the shifter and linkage back in place and also adjusted the clutch. The shifter seemed to be binding and not going into gear. I realized its probably the fact that the trans is not as high as it will/should be because I haven't put the cross member back in and the tans mount. I raised up the trans and the linkage is not binding. The shifter doesn't seem to want to go into reverse but I wasn't going to force it. I hope to have the trans mounted and cross member in later and then well see if anything is changed. I still have to add gear oil to trans. Should I do that before I am even trying to get it in and out of gear?

I'm working on the doors, taking the glass out. Will eventually replace old dingy/scratched glass.

It's interesting that the Service Manual doesn't include a step to take out the regulator. It seems like a no-brainer that the vent wing and window assembly doesn't come out unless you take the regulator out also. The roller doesn't disengage from the channel at the bottom of the window otherwise. It's just odd that the manual doesn't mention that at all.

@charliec wish my FSM had the door stuff in it... the hard part is done at least for me... took about 20 minutes.

I wish I could fix the ripped seam on my back seat and the front rear seat backs while I have all this off.

The car now smells super dusty... maybe I should vacuum/wipe down this area and the trunk while I have it apart...

Many moons ago when I originally took my Dart apart, I removed the quarter glass from both sides. I removed one of the quarter regulators, and after I got that far it occurred to me...."Maybe it would be wise to just leave one of the regulators in so as to have a guide for reinstalling the first one." Since it's now been 20+ years, I'm kinda glad I did it that way.

I've been busy the last few cold days.
Took my stock 5x4.5 front disc brake and suspension off and am now in process of installing my QA1 upper and lower tubular control arms. Mated up to QA1 tubular K frame. QA1 adj strut rods.
I can see the light at the end of tunnel! (Hope it's not a train)
Plus my new disc setup from Dr Diff.

I can hardly wait to get this fish running!

Got my trans out yesterday. Getting ready to pull the slant and fix up the engine bay. Someone before me welded pieces of steel into the inner fenders and outer fenders due to rust issues (making the fenders unable to be removed)

Had a good day yesterday. Managed to remove the passenger side door glass, regulator, brackets, etc. without breaking anything.:)
This might have been easier with some help, but I had no problem doing it alone.

Maybe a different story going back together.

@MrJLR All this **** is your fault man for posting about test driving a new Mopar a couple years back.

The new Mopar got the front wheels put on after sitting in the living room for a couple of wheeks. lol looks much better than the ugly stock wheels.

Finally got the Satin Black FR 73 wheels installed yesterday on the front to match the rears which I did a few months back.

I still have the stock shitty BadYears up front. On the rear are a set of 275 NITTO 555's I had to get due to budget. Next tirechange I'm going with some 305 M/T's in the rear, haven't decided on the fronts yet.

I went with a staggered setup in Satin Black. I think that the chrome finish would have looked horrible on a White/Black/Red combination. Next up is hood gets repainted a Satin Black. Ballpark of $600 from the painter at work, then all I need is a stripe kit from these guys. A solid red or cardinal.

(not mine, just on the stripe company website.)

Got the grill reinstalled. All the little alum tabs I made for it in place of the missing plastic attachment tabs worked pretty well. I was pleasantly surprised! Fixed a LH blinker issue from my rewire job. Still have to install the turn signal covers. Got the bumper back on...took a while to adjust it. Starting to look like a car again! Lower valence panel will be next to install.

Fixed my rear seat... good enough for the girls I go with... thinking about some carbon fiber 3m wrap for the black piece over my rear door cards.. havent decided yet.

Reverse issue solved with the help of fellow member here. Loosening and shifting side cover unbound whatever was causing the issue. Last night I reassembled the column to trans linkage and was going to install my H pipe. I saw a couple of spots wet on the block near the 90 degree oil filter adaptor so while the exhaust is not in yet I decided I'll replace the gaskets for the 90 degree adaptor. I am getting close to the end but now I'll have to wait on parts. Any secrets to make the new gasket set seal properly? I've read a lot about people having lots of issues getting them to seal properly.
