Hey all you wizards,

I recently rebuilt a ‘77 360 LA. While putting into my ‘72 Dart (Original 318) I’ve run into nothing but problems. My most recent is not being able to match up the bottom 2 bolts from the block to the original 904 trans in the car. There is about a 1/2 inch gap in between them. I’ve jacked the engine up and jacked the trans up and every combination of the 2. Not to mention the B&M flex plate (part no.BMM-10236) won’t get closer than about an 1/2 away from converter. Anyone with ideas help me please.

Yeah, You Have to Spin and Push the Converter until it Seats... Did You Do That?

Good way to break the ears off the front pump gear. If you forced it together they are probably already broke.

Oh hellno, none of that turn, clunk, clunkity turn stuff...place a straightedge across the front of the trans. Measure back to the converter pad, with the converter turned so that the pad you are measuring to is either to your right or left, not top or bottom. Then measure from the back of the block to the back of the flexplate. The trans measurement has to be MORE; by like 1/8"

The engine or transmission could also be slightly rotated off axis which prevents the two dowel pins on the transmission from engaging the back of the block properly.

Cut some bolts off and grind them to a point and screw them into the block to guide the trans on. About 2" long.
