Looking for input on what you run for front tires. My car was bought as a roller and the front tires are too old for me to trust as it sat for about 10 years before I bought it. (72 Demon that will be 90%/10% strip/street, 10.5cr 408, auto, 8" TC, split-mono CalTracs, etc, etc.) Target for the car has been 11.20-11.50 (but 100% unproven as of yet!). Car nearing completion and hoping to make inaugural runs within a couple months but want to get some new shoes for it first. Front tires are Mickey Thompson 26x7.5-15's on ProStar wheels. I know I can buy new identical replacement tires but these are bias-ply tires. Do any of you instead use a radial tire with a similar size? If so, what do you use? I haven't yet decided on the rears. It has 28.0x10.5W-15 slicks which are bias-ply but I may end up with new bias-ply slicks or drag radials there too.
So looking for input on those front tires - thx!!!

from what I've seen most use bias ply . try an put on the tallest tire that will fit, that way you can keep the front susp lower to get more travel for the cal trac.

I use 23x5 goodyear front runners on the protree car, with 14x32 bias slicks, firestone f560 165x15 radials on the other car with 315/65x15 dr pros or hoosier quick time pro bias, (tallest that will fit with fenderwell headers, and replaced the 165x15s (4"rim)with tall 235/75x15s on the full tree car (7" rim) to slow reaction time a bit. (To many red lights) Been running radials with bias slicks for a LONG time.

You gotta run these. Stay period correct. Not cheap. But they get the attention anywhere you go. :)

I put the M/T 6652 on the front of my Duster and loved them. Car drove 100 times nicer than the old M/T sportsman fronts.
The 6652 is 26" tall which is perfect for a Dart or Duster.
I used a 275/60/15 drag radial on the back. Ran easy mid 10's and drove it to the track.

I run 165/80/15's on the front. They're a cheap, somewhat common radial. Rears i run M/T ET Street SS drag radials- 295/55's. They're just shy of 28"dia.

I also run cheap-O 165/80/15's on the front of my car (I think they were about $45 each from the wretched W store) and Hooiser 275/60/15 DR on the rear.

Edit: Forgot to add, I used to run Hoosier QTP bias ply rear tires, but that (in conjunction with radial up front) made it a little squirrely at high speed. When I switched to Drag Radials it got MUCH more stable....and its a little bit faster to boot.

Which tire is the tallest with fenderwell headers? Big block ?

The big block fenderwell header car uses the 165/80x15s on a 15x4 rocket wheel.
The protree car has a tiny front wheelwell, so the short 23"frontrunners look okay, but thats immaterial, cause they are neccessary against a pro tree.
The real tall tires are on the front of a 62 savoy (giant wheelwell) with the splash panel under the front bumper cut for tire clearance. What might prove to be a problem is the one header tube on each side that runs through the fenderwell.

If the op doesn’t mind me asking......
Is there any truth to “if you run a radial up front, you need to run a radial rear tire”
Or does anyone have experience with this either way (bias/radial)
Thank you!

it’s suppose to track goofy. I’ve ran a set of bias slicks at the track with radial front runners. It felt fine.

pretty sure Keith runs old bias ply front runners and radial rears on his valiant.

have bias Hoosier frontrunners and Hoosier drag radials on the back
Car handles perfectly at the track, i street drive it too

Been running radial fronts with bias slicks since before riverside international raceway closed. That was in 1989.
Edit: with regard to flyfishes comment in post#7, he is absolutely right, bias tires can get squrrelly on the big end (regardless of front tires!), If run with a little too low air pressure, in order to get the car hooked up at the starting line. The stiffer sidewalls of a radial tire ARE much more stable, and partially because they work better with more air in them than bias slicks.
