Hey guys went to the track yesterday, wanted you guys to see where I can improve, this is a stock bottom end 1989 roller 318 engine with a rv camshaft regrind 650 Avs and ld4b intake. In my 67 barracuda. I know I can be a bit quicker using the same camshaft and adding 1.6 ratio rocker arm along with some magnum heads with an rpm air gap. But I know off the line I get a stupid bog sometimes, and my traction is not so great. Running one cheater slick lol

More info 1967 barracuda notchback 904 transmisson 8 3/4 3.91 gears 9:5 compression Here's the full camshaft specs , 260Intake/264exhaust duration .410/425 lift duration( with 1.5 rockers) @.050 203/208 lobe center 108/112
Grind Number #1006

Post your ET slip. What converter, transmission, gears, and what's the vehicle? What are the specs of the cam. Also, tire size. You bogged out of the hole, so I assume you didn't spin a lot.

Yeah will this damn carb has been pissing me off but ya these is a little bog it comes and goes.

It’s a 1967 barracuda 318 a904 9:5 compression roller camshaft 8 3/4 with 3.91s rear tires 255 60 15 let me look up the specs real quick!

As you can see I’m running the 1.5 ratio rockers vs the 1.6 that would give me little more lift

the ET slip looks "steady" for the time/mph. But, I think it's "soft" for the combo.
  • What altitude is your track?
  • What is your total timing?
  • Did you verify the throttle is coming wide open?

Yeah well that was with no manual shifting so the car was shifting at 5k but when I manually shift it she can hit 6k before she goes flat. The transmisson has a transgo shift kit and stock converter. I believe I’m at total 32 but I would have to check I know for sure I have 18 mechanical that’s how I set the plate. With the light spring.
370 track elevation, and yes I verified I’m getting wot

How much does it weigh? What were ur shift points? Kim
Kim, I actually never weighed it, but pretty much everything was still on The car, trunk had my tools and a spare tire, and a old 1989s tape player lol when I tired manual shifting I would shift at 6k but me time actually cam out slower because of that little bog

Do you thinking adding some tracking bars would help with the 60ft?

If you have stock leafs and an open rear end, then YES !!! Stay away from pinion snubbers with open rear ends! And get the other cheater slick... lol

Just because it will "hit" an RPM, don't mean it will run the best ET there. You'll have to play with shift points. Maybe next time try 5300 and see how it responds. And play from there... Also, play with timing. It may like 34* or 36*, who knows till you try it.

Okay will do!

What do you think about adding the magnum head? With that 1.6 rocker ratio I should get more lift and bigger valves are always good! Lol

It would be good. But, I always advise not to start unbolting and bolting a bunch of stuff - sort of throw things at a car without FIRST fixing what you have. Fix the bog, fix the traction, time it, tune it and play with shift points. You might get a 8.9 at 76 or something... just saying... then make your change.

Going from a 1.5 to a 1.6 rocker on such a mild combo is a waste of money, probably no gain...just a lighter wallet.

My 68 Barracuda 367/A833/8.75 was 3650 on race day, me in it. Probably 3450 on it's own with about a half a tankful.( aluminum heads and intake, P/S, P/B, front sway bar, friggen heavy HD shocks, fold-down rear seat, full length 3in/3out duals, alloy wheels, no spare or jack.)
