I just picked up a set of 71 scamp 14 inch dog dish rims and would like to place them on my car instead of the stock 13 inch rims. These rims presently have 225 70 14 on them and are way too wide to clear the quarter panel wells. Has anyone had success with a 14 inch tire on a 1964 Dodge Dart GT without modifications? I am thinking that a 185 60 14 may fit. I am open to ideas, please help.

If I might make a recommendation . There are few true performance tires in the 14" size and most are a mud and snow rated all season radial which is not the best choice for spirited driving unless you drive your car in the snow . If you want a dramatic change in your cars handling and ride then try Sumitomo HTR200 summer performance tires . They are available from the tirerack in various sizes with the 205/70/14 being the best choice for your application , and best of all they only cost $59 each.

205/70-14 or 195/75-14 are the closest to the factory size

yea what he said

Check the backspace on the rims.. I've run 255/60/15's on my Dart without issue. I do have large bolt pattern axles, but with a 4 1/4-4 1/2" backspace even on a 14" rim those tires should fit on the rear without any problems..

Thanks Slant 6. I will attempt to place some pics whenever I get the pic sizing mastered. I am installing new upholstery from legendary next week. This car has a 225 slant 6 with only 200 miles on the remanufacture . I need 800 more miles to change my oil.

I know I'm not talking about a Dart here, but I don't know where else to turn for the answer to this question and maybe one of you can help me. I'm restoring my 1968 Dodge Charger and I'm not sure what tire size to put on it. The originals are size G70-14's. I'm told a 205/70-14 is what I need, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

On a 14x5.5 Mopar steel wheel, I fit 245x60x14's on the back. I had no rubbng at all, and had room to spare. In fact, they are on in the pic in my Avatar.

On the front, I agree the 205 is probably the best choice.

Thanks,
OldMoparsRule!

I decided to run BF Goodrich Radial TA's 205/70/14. I picked up a killer deal on Discounttiredirect.com. $81.00 a piece-$60.00 online rebate plus $32.40 bing.com cashback. This amounts to about $56.00 per tire with free shipping and no tax.

Good choice.
205/70-14's all around on my 65

If anyone is not familiar with Bing Cashback, I can point you in the right direction. I think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Well, you have to create a windows live ID and a Bing cashback account. It is not necessary to have a msn or hotmail address to create either account. Just search for create bing cashback account. After your account is created you will need to go to bing.com and click on the shopping tab on the left hand side. Then sign into your account at the top right page. You can do a search for something, lets say tires, all of the results that have cashback will have a gold coin next to them indicating their percentage of cashback. Also, the bing engine in the shopping section has a list of stores, click on the store, as long as you are signed in, and make a purchase, you will receive your cashback within 60 days via Paypal or check etc. It is easy, so far this year, I have received $344.00 cash back sent to my paypal acount. Sometimes using the search engine yields a higher cashback amount than listed in the bing store listing. I received 13.4% cashback on a laptop form tigerdirect.com by doing a search for PC Parts, although the bing store listings only showed an 8% cash back. Discounttiredirect.com is currently 10%. These cashback amounts change quite frequently especially ebay and walmart etc. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately Bing Cashback has changed their progran, and you have to buy what they want you to be with the rewards, pretty lame

I put 235/60-14 on my 64 dart gt. haad alittle rework to the front fenders, but other than that it's fine with 8" wide rims

I have 245/60/14 on a 7inch cragar (rear) 205/70/14 on a 6" cragar (front), no mods no issues

On my 64 dart the fenders rubbed when i turned the wheel with coker frirstone wide oval 235/60-14 on bbp wheels. Just reworked the fenders a little for clearance.

Minimum recommended rim width for a 245-60-14 is 7". Just because you can get one on a 5.5" wheel does not make it right.

I fully agree , I say the same thing about people that put a 275-60-15 on a 15 x 7 inch rim , that is a no no !!!

I havep175/65R/14 6 inch rim on the front and P215/70/14 with 7 inch on the back. Could have gone larger on the front, but thats another story.

My 64 GT has 225X60X14 radials on all 4 corners- with 14" rallye wheels- no clearance problems anywhere- have 235X70x14 on my 65 valiant rear- no problem- fronts were 225/70/14 and hit on the lower front corner of the wheel well- just a little pruning and is OK- should have used 215s though...
