  • Parts for the column are here, everything is repainted and ready for rebuild. If only I hadn't torn the bearing insulator.
I have a manual steering column in my 68 barracuda that is giving me fits. I recently rebuilt the column, replaced the lower bearing and reinstalled it. Went for a test drive and it comes apart in my hands (pulled the shaft out of the housing and the rag joint apart). When I pulled the column back out to see what happened, the bolts that fit in the slots to hold it all together had come apart. What's up with that. I've never had one of these apart before so I tried again paying close attention to the 2 bolts and the slots they go into. Test drove it and the result. Same thing. What's up with that?can someone help get me onto a safer more reliable steering column please! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
