Did you try setting a preset? Move the needle to a spot. Pull out the first button then push it all the way in. Move the needle then push the first button and the needle should go back.

Unfortunately no. They should move in unison. If it was am/fm, one would be bass/treble and the other would change between am/fm

One thing people overlook is to check the factory shop manual. There are usually detailed step by step instructions for every procedure. You can download them or purchase a reprint hard copy.
