I 440 swapped a 74 Satellite in the 90’s. The car was mint, ready for paint, and the 8 3/4 in my yard. Then a dump truck hit and run destroyed the car, and nearly me. I was stuck motionless on ice, trying to parallel park at an auto parts store when it happened.
The local police put a big orange (we are gonna tow it) sticker on my smashed car while it sat (still registered & insured) in front of my house. My mother refused to allow it back in the driveway. I had to sell the smash car for the fresh 440&727 back to the people who I bought it from. I paid 750 for the 440 wagon, rebuilt the 440, put it in the Satellite, and sold it back for 750. The actual plan after the smash was to find a good a roller for the 440.
Fast forward 30 years, and that never stopped bothering me. I recently asked myself, why not revisit? Besides cost and availability, why not try to put something together? So I bought a drivable 1974 Dart Custom 5.2, for a 360 swap. I have acquired a low mile, clean magnum 5.9, china air gap, thunder 650, and a sure grip 323/8.25 so far.
