    Hello, A couple of questions...

Thank You SYleng1. The acid works good. It doesn't remove rust but changes it to another inert solid. The un-rusted metal takes on a 'gavanized' look. I do have a sand blaster and yes, it is very messy! The neighbors would not appreciate the cloud! Appreciate your input on Rustoleum as the...

    Hello, A couple of questions...

Scamp. I went to Finish Master and talked to the gal, The price was OK on the seam sealer but the applicator gun, ! $125!! After brushing the paint and rust I would like to protect it. Rustoleum seamed like it would work, I guess not. Since the whole car is going to take some time, I will...

    Hello, A couple of questions...

My 1st restoration, 1963 Valiant Convertible. Q1) what is the 'caulk' that goes around the metal seams (see pic), and where is the best place to get it. Should it be installed before or after paint? ...the original stuff looked like tar. Q2) I have tried to punch holes through the floor pan...

Hello all, back after a few years

Hello all, Name is Glen, I was on here a long time ago to find out my 63 Valiant convertible had rust issues. Now, after finding a donor car/frame, I am glad to be back. My plan is to combine the two into a nice single car. A pic of the donor car and of the 'rust bucket'. Donor is with the...

It looks like frame rails are in my cars future...

Thanks for the info. I do need at least 1 torque box and the inner fender well is bad -over the years from battery leakage. It does have some severe rust, looking at it closely seems bad to me. I will get a better idea starting Friday. kinda bummed right now.

Does anyone know if early A convertible frame rails are the same as non-convertibles? from pics, it appears convertibles may be thicker gauge metal. Thanks, -Glen

How do you remove the back seat?

Removed the seat, both bottom and back. The back part was screwed in at the junction where the two meet, one screw far right and one far left. An unwelcome guest was found, he made a nest with seat material. Perhaps Mr mouse needed something to sharpen his teeth with as the pump has oil all...

Just wondering....have some blue smoke out the back....

A compression test or leak-down test would be a proper start. Does the smoke get worse when going down a steep hill w/throttle closed during engine braking?
