    fuel / vaccum issue?

Thanks for the input guys. I plan on getting back under the hood tonight or tommorrow night. The first thing I am going to check is the fuel level in the bowls. There is a lot of opinion that the secondary bowl is more than likely dumping fuel causing the leak. Last night I did go out for just a...

    fuel / vaccum issue?

Time for an update. I crawled back through the hood and discovered the gasket between the carb and the intake had a leak on the pass side. Upon removal I discovered that dad had rtv'd two 3/16" rubber gaskets together and the fuel was seeping out between the two. I replaced that with a 1" spacer...

    fuel / vaccum issue?

Ok chaps, I feel I am getting closer on dad's old 70 duster. Rebuilt heads, new gas tank, pick etc., her's the question. When I crank her up I close the manual choke. She fires up nop problem, but I have to keep my foot on the gas and the rpm's around 1200 or she shuts down. any suggestions?

    Fuel issue...

Sounds like the filter is clogged. Did you clean out the line after removing the bad gas? Also, is the carb clogged?

    No idle problem

Do you mean the air bleeds in the metering body, or where exactly do I need to blow them out from. I appreciate your patience, I am learning. slowly, but still learning!

    No idle problem

Must be catching. I am having the same issue with my 383. I can keep her running at about 1200 rpm with my foot on the accelorator, but as soon as I let off she dies.

    Dad's Duster Finally Lives

I just wanted to apologize to everyone for disappearing off the boards. The last six months have run me ragged. The last I spoke to everyone I was chasing a zero oil pressure in the 383. After some good advice here, I discovered I had a bent push rod. Since that point I pulled the heads to have...

    383 with zero oil pressure.

Thanks OK, I didn't get a chance to work on the breaks last night. I will attempt to get to the shop this weekend and check them out. I must spend time with the family for a few days!

    383 with zero oil pressure.

I can do that at the least. I'll remember to bring my camera over to the shop tomorrow night and take some pics. Thanks again to everyone for all of their help! I'll catch up tomorrow night!

    It's ALIVE, sort of.

Jack, I don't know if this helps, but we pulled the valve covers tonight on the 383 and found a bent push rod with the lifter out of the bore. replaced the lifter into the bore and threw a new pushrod in and presto. Pressure! Good luck

    383 with zero oil pressure.

Honestly I'm not sure. I talked to my uncle in Jersey and he remembers my father having "all kinds of problems getting the dual cylinders on the front calipers right, but that he finally got it". If I have time tomorrow after I put the rest back together, I will look for some id on them and post...

    383 with zero oil pressure.

When we turned the motor the valve on number 4 was hung. A few love taps and some marvels and she released nicely! I would wager that the valve hung and caused the pushrod to bend. Thanks fellas, tomorrow night we will put everything back together and get the timing dialed in better. Then it is...
